A “Below Deck Mediterranean” star is being praised as a hero after rescuing several people during the Bondi Beach attack in Australia.
Nathan Gallagher, who currently stars in Bravo’s “Below Deck Med” season 10 as bosun, just so happened to be working on his boat when he heard the sound of gunshots near the beach. Instead of fleeing from the scene, Gallagher and his team rushed to the shore to try and save as many people in the water as they could.
‘Below Deck Med’ Star Nathan Gallagher Recounts Saving Lives During Bondi Beach Tragedy
“Below Deck Mediterranean” star Nathan Gallagher was working aboard his boat near the shores of Bondi Beach, Australia, on Dec. 14, unaware that a mass shooting was taking place on the famed beach and would soon leave 15 people dead and several others injured.
Speaking with RTE Radio 1, Gallagher was aboard his boat tagging sharks for the government when he and his crew heard what they believed were fireworks near Bondi Beach. However, once he realized they were gunshots, he and his crew moved into action, determined to do whatever they could to save lives.
“When I realized it was gunshots, I said to the boys, I said ‘Stop what you’re doing. We’re going in to see if we can save, save some people here,'” he told the radio host.
When the host asked Gallagher what his initial thoughts were as they headed closer to shore and to the gunshots, he shared, “I want to get there ASAP because I’ve seen a lot of people running on the beach and people running from the beach to the water, and there was a lot of surfers in the water. The state of the sea and people there with gunshots going off.”
He continued, “The first thing that I wanted to do was just pull people out of the water.”
Gallagher went on to describe the scene at the beach as chaotic as people were running left and right seeking cover.
Despite being on a small boat, he shouted to people in the water to climb aboard. Altogether, Gallagher and his crew managed to fit 6 or 7 people, and gave them his phone to call their loved ones.
‘Below Deck’ Star Gael Cameron Was Meant to Be at Bondi Beach
During Gallagher’s conversation with the radio show, he shared that his partner and the mother of his child, “Below Deck” star Gael Cameron, was actually supposed to be on Bondi Beach with their son on that fateful day.
“I called her and I said there’s a shooting in Bondi, I’m here. And I’m going to try to get as many people out of the water as possible.” He added, “She wasn’t too happy about that.”
“To me, if I went home and I turned a blind eye to it, I wouldn’t have been able to sleep at night knowing that I could have contributed to saving a few people,” Gallagher shared.
Gallagher and Cameron struck up a romance in season 9, but they broke up shortly after the cameras went down. However, Captain Sandy Yawn surprised Gallagher when she shared that Cameron would be joining their crew on season 10, which is currently airing.
Of course, fans all know that the two revisited their romance and welcomed a son named Kayden in June 2025.

Wonderful- so nice to see there are still heroes out there!
Good work Nathan!
What a hero you and your friends are.
TYPICAL female. A hero in action, and all she can relay is that “she’s not happy with is decision”. Ah, Ma’am, who, exactly IS going to help people in emergencies when real life situations are staring you in the face? You should apologize to Nathan, and be proud of his brave values.
