When it comes to reality TV friendships, Candiace Dillard Bassett is being completely transparent and offering a little tough love along the way.
During a recent episode of her podcast “Undomesticated,” the former “The Real Housewives of Potomac” star shared her perspective on the ongoing tension between Ciara Miller and Amanda Batula from Summer House — and she didn’t hold back.
Still, her message wasn’t just about drama. It was about growth, clarity and learning how to protect your peace.
A “Big Sister” Perspective on Reality TV Friendships
Candiace offered Ciara insight from a place of guidance rather than judgment. She described the advice as “big sister” advice, rooted in her own experiences navigating the turmoil of reality television.
Reflecting on her time on “The Real Housewives of Potomac,” she explained that not every friendship formed on camera is built to last off-screen. In fact, some connections, she said, are shaped more by audience perception than genuine connection.
In regard to Ciara’s friendship with Amanda, Candiace said plainly, “That girl was really never your friend. All of it felt like a relationship of convenience.”
“On housewives there are relationships I was in that I discovered in my exit that were relationships of convenience and only worked because this is what it seemed like the fans wanted. This is what it seemed like the people are championing and cheering for. But I’m not on the show anymore so it doesn’t behoove you to maintain a friendship with me and so we’re not friends anymore.”
Ciara’s Emotional Reveal About ‘Summer House’ Tension Sparks Conversation
The discussion comes after Ciara opened up in an interview with Glamour about feeling hurt and blindsided by recent developments in her inner circle.
She revealed that she learned about Amanda’s relationship with West Wilson at the same time as the public, despite receiving a heads-up less than a day before the news broke. For Ciara, the timing — and the lack of deeper communication — added to the emotional weight of the situation.
She also shared that she and West had previously agreed on certain boundaries, “no more sleeping with people on Bravo,” a boundary that he has since broken.
Through it all, Ciara has made it clear she’s entering a new chapter — one where she’s prioritizing honesty and no longer protecting people who don’t extend that same care in return.
Letting Go of the “Loyalty Tax”
GettyFor Candiace, the biggest message is about releasing what she calls the “loyalty tax.”
She encouraged Ciara to stop overextending herself for relationships that aren’t equally supportive, and instead focus on being vocal about her feelings.
According to Candiace, staying silent to keep the peace can sometimes allow others to shape the narrative. Speaking up, on the other hand, creates clarity — both for yourself and for those around you.

A New Chapter for Everyone Involved
While the situation continues to unfold, Candiace’s perspective highlights a broader truth about life in the spotlight: growth often comes from difficult moments.
Her advice ultimately lands on a positive note — friendships may shift, evolve or even end, but each experience offers an opportunity to better understand what real support looks like.
And in the world of reality TV, that kind of clarity can be the most valuable storyline of all.
