Andrew Lloyd Webber’s 5 Kids Continue Family Legacy

Andrew Lloyd Webber is known for creating some of the most successful musicals in history, including “The Phantom of the Opera” and “Cats.” Alongside his decades-long career in theater, the Oscar-winning composer is also a father of five. He shares two children, Imogen and Nicholas, with his first wife, Sarah Hugill, and three children, Alastair, William, and Isabella, with his third wife, Madeleine Gurdon.

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Kids Follow Careers in Music and Media

Lloyd Webber’s eldest daughter, Imogen Lloyd Webber, was born in 1977 and works in journalism and broadcasting. After graduating from Cambridge University, she moved to New York City and worked for Broadway.com and MSNBC. In 2018, she became an ABC News contributor and has also held a leadership role at Concord Theatricals. In addition to her media work, Imogen has written books and produced stage projects, according to her LinkedIn profile.

His eldest son, Nicholas Lloyd Webber, was born in 1979 and followed a path similar to his father. He began working in music at age 14 as a tape operator on a recording of “Sunset Boulevard.”

As an adult, Nicholas contributed to projects including BBC One’s “Love, Lies and Records” and collaborated on his father’s album “Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cinderella,” earning a Grammy nomination.

Nicholas died in March 2023 after being diagnosed with stomach cancer. At the time, Lloyd Webber shared a statement to People about his loss, saying, “I am shattered to have to announce that my beloved elder son Nick died a few hours ago in Basingstoke Hospital. His whole family is gathered together and we are all totally bereft.”

He later reflected on their final moments in an essay for The New York Times, writing, “We hugged and said our goodbyes. The next day, my son died. Nothing’s worse for a parent than the death of a child.” Lloyd Webber dedicated the final Broadway performance of “The Phantom of the Opera” to Nicholas.

The EGOT Winner’s Younger Children Expand Creative Ventures

Lloyd Webber’s younger children have also established careers across the entertainment industry. His son Alastair Lloyd Webber, born in 1992, has worked in music production and artist development. According to his LinkedIn profile, he began his career at Capital FM and later worked at Island Records before co-founding The Other Songs in 2018 with his brother William Lloyd Webber.

The company focuses on representing songwriters and creatives. In a 2023 Instagram post, Alastair explained its mission, writing, “In a saturated artist market, songwriters are often under-appreciated. TOSL was founded to create a live platform for songwriters to get their songs, thoughts and ideas heard.”

William Lloyd Webber, born in 1993 and often called Billy, also works in music. After studying at the University of West London, he worked in A&R at Warner Music Group before launching The Other Songs with his brother. He also leads Another Rhythm Records, an independent label affiliated with the company, according to his LinkedIn profile.

The youngest of the five, Isabella Lloyd Webber, was born in 1996 and works in film and creative production. According to her website, she gained experience with companies including Sony Music Entertainment and Sony Pictures Entertainment before founding her own company, Studio Bella, in 2021. She now works as a director and creative strategist and began production on her second short film, “Tinfoil,” in 2023.
