Country Music Icon Breaks Neck and Is Rushed to the Hospital

Ray Stevens is recovering after a serious fall that left the country legend with a broken neck.

The 87-year-old Country Music Hall of Famer suffered the injury on Sunday, March 29, after falling in Nashville, according to a statement from his team that was shared with PEOPLE.

Stevens was briefly hospitalized following the accident but has since been released and is now continuing his recovery at home.

Doctors have advised the two-time GRAMMY winner to wear a neck brace for approximately four weeks as he heals.

Despite the severity of the injury, his team shared a reassuring update on his condition.

“Despite the injury, he remains fully mobile and in good spirits as he continues his recovery,” the statement read.

Stevens Is About to Release a New Album

The update comes as Stevens prepares for the release of his upcoming album, “Favorites Old & New,” which is still scheduled to drop on April 10 via Curb Records.

The project holds special meaning for the singer, who recently reflected on the creative process behind it.

“I had a lot of fun creating this album, ‘Favorites Old & New,’” Stevens said via PEOPLE. “It really does contain a few of my favorite old songs as well as favorite new ones penned by some talented writers. I just hope Ray Stevens fans enjoy it as much as Ray Stevens!”

The injury marks another health setback for Stevens in recent years.

Stevens Suffered a Minor Heart Attack in 2025

In July 2025, the “The Streak” singer experienced a minor heart attack that required medical attention and surgery.

At the time, he went to a Nashville hospital after experiencing chest pain, where doctors performed a heart catheterization procedure.

It was then determined that he had suffered a mild heart attack.

Stevens underwent minimally invasive heart surgery and began recovery shortly afterward.

While the procedure was successful, he was forced to cancel performances at his CabaRay Showroom in West Nashville during that time.

Updates shared on his social media offered fans insight into his recovery process.

“Ray is out of ICU and beginning to walk the halls as therapy with a nurse’s assistance as he is working towards recovering from this surgery,” a post read. “Ray is very grateful for all of the cards and get well messages. Everything Is Still Beautiful!!!! ❤️”

Now, less than a year later, Stevens is once again facing a health challenge—but appears to be maintaining a positive outlook.

With his album release still on schedule and his spirits high, the country star’s resilience continues to stand out, even in the face of setbacks.
