American country music singer and songwriter Riley Green has joked that he “looked cool” while bleeding on stage after when he was hit by a stray cellphone thrown by a supposed fan.
As reported by People, Green, 37, was performing at Margaret Court Arena in Melbourne, Australia on Saturday, March 14. The incident — a video of which was uploaded to TikTok, but is now deleted — left the star bleeding near his right ear. His wound needed five stitches in the aftermath.
In an appearance on TODAY Australia, Green discussed the incident with the show’s hosts, Karl Stefanovic and Sarah Abo.
Riley Green Jokes He ‘Wasn’t Quick Enough’ to Avoid the Phone
GettySarah Abo began the discussion with Riley Green about the phone-throwing incident by saying, “But you did have a bit of an altercation. I can see the stitches in your ear…”
Green lightheartedly responded, “Yeah. I didn’t get my ear pierced. That was a cell phone at a show the other day.” He continued, “I wasn’t quick enough, I guess.”
TODAY Australia rolled a clip of the moment Green was hit by a phone, and Abo asked, “No, that’s a phone. Seriously?”
However, Green assured the hosts the incident was a one-off, telling them, “I’ve played, you know, 100 plus shows a year for 12 to 15 years, and that’s the first thing like this has happened. You can’t let one person ruin the night for everybody, you know.”
Green Says He Believes the Culprit Was Dealt With
GettyKarl Stefanovic expressed his shock at what happened, and asked Riley Green if the culprit was dealt with on the night. Stefanovic said, “No, but that’s just that is not cool. Did they get the person? Did they… do you know anything?”
Green answered, “I feel like they did. I think they got thrown out, and I looked cool. There’s blood going down my face during the show.”
Sarah Abo concluded the discussion about the unfortunate event by putting a positive spin on it, saying, “Well, you have a nice scar now.”
Per Discogs, Green has had a hugely successful career. He has released three studio albums and 14 singles and EPs.
Green’s official website states he’s embarking on a tour of the United States next month. The tour’s name is “Riley Green: Cowboy As It Gets Tour 2026.”
The tour will begin on April 16 in Southaven, Mississippi. It will come to a climax on August 22 in Grand Forks, North Dakota. In total, he’ll be performing in 20 different locations on 21 dates.
Justin Moore, is the tour’s main supporting act. There will also be special guest performances. Namely, they will come from Drake White, Mackenzie Carpenter, Zach John King, Hannah McFarland, and Adam Hood. The special appearances will vary by city.
We hope Riley Green fully recovers from the phone-throwing incident in Australia — both mentally and physically. Moreover, we wish him well with his career, particularly regarding his exciting upcoming tour.

It keeps saying that a fan threw a phone. It apparently wasn’t a fan so I don’t know why they keep saying that. Can’t figure out why that person was there in the first place. Riley was cool. The show must go on. Very classy. Hope the person got their just rewards.
