Robert Irwin Reveals His Secrets for Keeping His DWTS Body ‘In Line’

Robert Irwin has revealed the secrets behind keeping his body “in line” while he’s participating on “Dancing with the Stars.”

The likeable conservationist, television personality, wildlife photographer, and sometimes actor, 21, has been a fan-favorite on the popular reality dance competition since season 34 began. Moreover, after scoring consistently highly on the show (Irwin hasn’t received a single score of less than 7 from any of the judges), he’s one of the favorites to lift the prestigious Mirrorball trophy in the highly-anticipated finale on November 25.

“Dancing with the Stars” is incredibly demanding on the bodies of any of its participants, and Irwin has revealed what he does in his attempts to keep his in tip-top condition.

Robert Irwin Has a Trio of Secrets for Keeping His Body Healthy

In an exclusive interview with People, Robert Irwin began by saying, “I am being held together by, like, tape, and my foot’s all bandaged up,” before revealing the three methods he’s using to keep his body healthy.

Irwin said, “I’ve been doing all of the cryotherapy and the saunas and the Epsom salt baths, and, like, everything I can possibly do to try and keep my body in line.”

However, after touching on the subject with his bandage admission, he conceded that the experience is taking his toll on his body. Irwin said, “Because, woo, it’s starting to break down a little bit, but I wouldn’t change it for the world.”

Irwin then went into the sheer madness of participating on the show, explaining, “You know, the fact that you get to give yourself 100% to this process to pour everything into it, it is just such a privilege. I’m kind of becoming a dancer. Like, it’s a crazy, crazy thing to do in three months.”

Irwin’s Performances Show Very Little Wear and Tear

One thing’s for certain: despite Robert Irwin admitting that “Dancing with the Stars” is wearing him down, you wouldn’t know it when you watch him perform.

His most recent performance alongside his professional partner Witney Carsona foxtrot to “Footprints in the Sand” by Leona Lewis — earned him 40 out of 40. It came during the show’s “20th Birthday Party” episode, when former host Tom Bergeron joined regular judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Derek Hough, and Bruno Tonioli in scoring the contestants.

Irwin’s next dance will be a Viennese waltz on “Prince Night” in the series semi-final. The dance will be performed to the late icon’s “WOW,” with other contestants dancing to iconic tracks like “Purple Rain,” “Little Red Corvette,” “Rasperry Beret,” and “When Doves Cry.”

It was Steve Irwin Day on November 15 — a date chosen because it takes place on the birthday of one of Irwin’s favourite animals, a tortoise from the Galápagos Islands — and Robert Irwin celebrated his father by having the “Dancing with the Stars” cast wear khaki. An Instagram post about it wonderfully conveyed the camaraderie he shares with them all.

We can’t wait to see him dance again. We just hope his body holds up! Tune in on Tuesday, November 18 to watch him and all the other remaining season 34 contestants in the semi-final.
