Robert Irwin is ready to hit the dance floor as a cast member of “Dancing With the Stars” season 34. The animal conservationist shared how he plans to honor his late father, Steve Irwin, on the show.
Robert Irwin Is Planning to Bring Steve Irwin’s Energy to DWTS
In a September 2025 interview with People, Irwin shared that he was uncertain what his dad, who passed away in 2006, would think of him competing on the show.
“I don’t know. I have no idea,” he admitted.
Irwin continued, “Crikey, I don’t know, like all of the rhinestones and the glitter and all of that, it’s a lot, but you know, I think he always said it was really funny. He’d always go, ‘I don’t care if people remember me, I want people to remember my message and what I stand for.'”
He noted, “And I think people remember his message and him. I mean, he just showed what it was to truly live life at 100% and above anything else, he was just the greatest dad, always there for us.”
Irwin shared that he will bring some of his father’s spirit and energy to the competition.
“I just hope to keep his legacy alive, his spirit, his sense of just love for life,” he explained. “And so if I can bring that kind of energy into the ballroom and honor him and his legacy, then I’ve done my job.”
Irwin added, “So that’s what we’ll be trying to do is make him proud.”
The conservationist has been paired with pro dancer Witney Carson.
Robert Irwin Visited Steve Irwin’s Hollywood Walk of Fame Star
On August 24, Irwin took to Instagram to share a video of him visiting his father’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
“We just touched down into L.A. for ‘Dancing With the Stars,'” he said. “Look who I found.”
Irwin pointed to his dad’s star, noting, “How cool is that? That’s so awesome … That’s so cool.”
His sister Bindi commented, “I know Dad is SO proud of you.”
Fans lit up the comments with praise for Irwin and his family. “That man loved you SO much. You honor him well,” one person noted.
Another fan wrote, “So cool. Your dad brought joy and education to so many. It’s great to see you follow in his footsteps. Go dance your feet off out there!”
“You and Bindi honor your dad so well Robert. He’d be so proud of you,” one fan shared. “You bring so much joy to people’s lives just like he did. Go kick some butt on DWTS.”
