Mirrorball champ Bobby Bones made headlines this week after former “Dancing With the Stars” host Tom Bergeron seemingly shaded the radio personality. Now, he says he regrets his reaction.
Bobby Bones Returned His Mirrorball Trophy
Bergeron — who returned to the ballroom for the show’s 20th anniversary special earlier this week — revealed his most surprising “Dancing With the Stars” moment.
“The thing that shocked me most was a win—Bobby Bones. That was when I went, ‘Uhh,'” he told Parade in an interview published Tuesday, November 11. “Bobby Bones was the first time I was like, ‘Ouch.’ No disrespect to Bobby. He would probably say the same thing.”
As it turned out, Bones would not “say the same thing.”
The musician took to social media after hearing Bergeron’s comments to share his disappointment.
“This was hurtful, and not because of what was said, but really who said it,” he said in a video shared via Instagram the following day. “What was I supposed to do on that show? I didn’t even want to be on the show…Am I supposed to not show up and work hard? Am I supposed to not give it freaking everything that I have? Am I supposed to throw it and not win?”
The former “American Idol” mentor continued, “It’s crazy the amount of hate I get, even from people that I respect, like Tom Bergeron and Julianne Hough.”
He went on to say that he had returned his Mirrorball Trophy following Bergeron’s “hurtful” remarks.
“I had a great attitude, I worked hard and here we are six years later, I’m still catching strays out of nowhere, so I sent the trophy back,” Bones added. “They don’t want me to be a part of the show, obviously. I no longer have the Mirrorball trophy. I loved my time there, but I would say things like this… taking random shots this week [has] taken all the joy out of my time on the show.”
Bobby Bones Wants His Mirrorball Trophy Back
Bones took to the stage at the Grand Ole Opry on Friday, November 14, to further discuss his Mirrorball drama.
“Y’all said to send the Mirrorball back. So, I sent the Mirrorball back,” he addressed the audience, as seen in a video shared via Reddit. “I regret it. I wish I still had it. It was like, as soon as I put the stamp on it and sent it off, I was like, ‘God, that was so stupid.’ But, I am still the champion, and if you see a post about it, please comment, ‘He’s a good dancer.’ That would make me feel better. Thank you.”
Fans showed their support for the “The Bobby Bones Show” podcast host in the comments section of his recent Instagram post.
“Can you plz tell them to ship the mirror ball back to you ❤️ you deserved it,” one fan wrote.
“For what it’s worth, I remember saying I think you’re a really great dancer,” another added.
“Best dancer ever! I stopped watching after you won. Who could ever beat that!!??” a third chimed in.

Most DWTS fans felt like Tom Bergeron did not think Bobby Bones should NOT have won the season. He only won because HE had a massive fanbase and because he could dance. Milo Manheim should have won the season. He was an amazing dancer, with NO dance training, who got robbed of the Mirrorball
