New details are emerging about the tragic passing of Todd Meadows, who fell overboard during the final days of filming “Deadliest Catch” season 22.
According to PEOPLE, production was wrapping up, and cameras were rolling at the time.
Discovery Channel confirmed that filming for season 22 has since concluded.
What Is Currently Known
The deckhand, 25, was working aboard the Aleutian Lady — the last vessel of the season still at sea — when the incident occurred on February 25.
Since the tragic incident, Todd’s mother, Angela Meadows, told TMZ on March 4 that she and her family hope none of the footage from the accident is aired.
“We don’t want to see any footage from the accident and do not want Discovery to air any of that footage or make money off of our son’s death,” she said. “We hope they only air good things of Todd on that boat.”
His mother also revealed that prior to the tragedy he “was hit in the head about a month ago while on the ship,” according to another TMZ article.
He suffered from a concussion, flew back to his home in Washington, and was later cleared to resume his role on the boat.
Angela recalled the heartbreaking last pic she has of her son.
”The last photo I got of him was when he was building a fire. He was listening to music in the moment and was so happy. That’s how I want to remember him,” she said.
The Aleutian Lady crew acted quickly to save Todd after he fell into the freezing waters of the Bering Sea.
Those on Deck Speak Out
Todd’s bunkmate, Trey John Green III, told Us Weekly, “We did everything we could to save him. Trying to save somebody out at sea is no easy task.”
Despite the crew’s immediate response, Todd could not be revived and was transported to Dutch Harbor, where he was later confirmed deceased.
Captain Rick Shelford later paid tribute to Todd in a social media post, describing the deckhand as “the newest member of our crew” who “quickly became family.”
He added, “His love for fishing and his strong work ethic earned everyone’s respect right away. His smile was contagious, and the sound of his laughter coming up the wheelhouse stairs or over the deck hailer is something we will carry with us always.”
A GoFundMe page was launched to support his three children, cover funeral expenses, and help the family navigate the financial impact of his sudden passing.
The campaign emphasizes Todd’s role as a devoted father, son, and brother, calling the loss “unimaginable.”
As fans of “Deadliest Catch” mourn his passing, the family and crew hope Todd is remembered for his warmth, work ethic, and love for the sea — rather than the tragic circumstances of his final moments on camera.
