“Deadliest Catch” is returning with a new season — and this time, it carries a deeply emotional weight.
The long-running Discovery Channel series will premiere on Friday, May 8, bringing viewers back to the high-stakes world of crab fishing in the Bering Sea.
How the Show Will Handle His Passing
However, the upcoming season will also honor the life and legacy of crew member Todd Meadows, who tragically died earlier this year while filming.
Meadows, 25, will appear in footage captured in the weeks leading up to the incident.
According to People, his death itself will not be shown on screen out of respect for his family.
Instead, the premiere will include a tribute reflecting the impact he had on his fellow crew members and the broader fishing community.
Episodes that follow will continue to highlight his contributions throughout the season.
The tragedy occurred on February 25, when Meadows fell overboard from the Aleutian Lady fishing vessel roughly 170 miles north of Dutch Harbor, Alaska.
A spokesperson for the U.S. Coast Guard Arctic District confirmed the incident happened shortly after 5 p.m. local time in the Bering Sea.
He was recovered by the crew about 10 minutes later but was unresponsive.
Tributes Poured In After the Sad News
In the days following the loss, Captain Rick Sheldon shared a heartfelt tribute, capturing just how much Meadows meant to those who worked alongside him.
“February 25, 2026 was the most tragic day in the history of the Aleutian Lady on the Bering Sea. We lost our brother, Todd Meadows,” Sheldon wrote. “Todd was the newest member of our crew, he quickly became family. His love for fishing and his strong work ethic earned everyone’s respect right away.”
He continued, “His smile was contagious, and the sound of his laughter coming up the wheelhouse stairs or over the deck hailer is something we will carry with us always.”
Beyond his role on the boat, Meadows was remembered as a devoted father.
“Todd’s love for his children, his family, and his life was evident in everything he did. He worked hard, loved deeply, and brought joy to those around him,” Sheldon added.
A GoFundMe Was Established for His Children
Following the tragedy, a GoFundMe was created to support Meadows’ three young sons and help his family navigate the financial burden of funeral expenses and the future.
The fundraiser described him as a “determined dad” whose children were “his entire world,” noting that “everything he did was for them — their smiles, their futures, and the memories they will carry with them.”
As of now, the campaign has raised nearly $61,000.
Meadows’ sister also spoke out after losing her brother.
“No words put together can even describe the pain we’re going through and will continue to,” she told Us Weekly shortly after the tragic news was released. “His boys will see him through pictures, and we will see him through his boys.”
While “Deadliest Catch” has long been known for showcasing the dangers of life at sea, this season serves as a poignant reminder of those risks — and the tight-knit bonds formed among crews who face them together.
