Katy Perry was giving astronaut vibes as she hit the red carpet at the 2026 Met Gala.
The “E.T.” singer turned heads by pairing her white Stella McCartney gown with a silver, futuristic mask surrounded by white netting.
While she first posed for photos with the mask on, obscuring her face, Perry eventually revealed what she was hiding underneath.

Katy Perry’s Met Gala Look
GettyPerry matched her custom gown with matching opera gloves, but it’s her face card that had everyone talking.
While posing atop the stairs at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, Perry opened up the chrome mask encasing her face.
As she smiled widely for the flashing photographers, she also revealed she was wearing a pair of grills on her teeth. The back of her dress, meanwhile, also featured burn marks at the end of her train.
Perry attended the event solo, without boyfriend Justin Trudeau by her side.
2026 Met Gala Theme Explained
The annual event is held to help raise funds for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute.
This year’s spring exhibition at the center of the celebration is “Costume Art,” while the dress code for the red carpet is “Fashion is Art.”
According to Vogue, the exhibition “explores the ‘centrality of the dressed body’ through depictions and interpretations of the human form,” with dresses paired with paintings, sculptures, and other works from art history.
“In turn, the dress code encourages attendees to consider the many ways that designers use the body as their blank canvas,” added the publication.
For the 2026 event, Beyoncé Knowles, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams, and Anna Wintour served as co-chairs.
Katy Perry’s Past Met Gala Looks
Before the May 4 appearance, Perry last walked the Met Gala red carpet in 2022.
Her first time attending the event, however, was back in 2009. For the soiree, she wore a blue Tommy Hilfiger gown with metallic accessories.
In 2010, she rocked a custom CuteCircuit dress that glowed in the dark, before appearances in 2013, 2015, 2016, and 2017.
In 2018, she turned heads again by sporting massive angel wings in a Versace mini. Then, in 2019, she shocked onlookers by dressing as a chandelier, courtesy Moschino. For the after-party, meanwhile, she changed into a cheeseburger costume, again from Moschino.
Perry made a more muted appearance in 2022, before missing out on the next couple of carpets.
In 2025, she took to social media to explain she had to skip the event again due to her tour. Perry, however, shared an AI-generated photo of herself one the carpet to Instagram.
“couldn’t make it to the MET, I’m on The Lifetimes Tour (see you in Houston tomorrow IRL‼️)” she captioned the post. “P.s. this year I was actually with my mom so she’s safe from the bots but I’m praying for the rest of y’all.”
In 2024, Perry’s mother was fooled by different AI-generated photos of Perry at the event, according to InStyle. Katy later shared a screenshot of her texts from her mom, reading, “Ha Feather! Didn’t know you went to the Met. What a gorgeous gown, you look like the Rose Parade, you are your own float lol.”
Perry responded, “lol mom the AI got you too, BEWARE!”
