It’s surely no surprise that Nicole Kidman looked breathtakingly beautiful when she made her appearance at the 2026 Met Gala. However, what might have raised a few eyebrows is the fact that she brought her daughter, Sunday Rose, as her date to the big event.
Of course, that’s not because the model wasn’t able to shine right along with her mother. Instead, her attendance might have broken a rule.
Sunday Rose Might Be too Young for the Met Gala
GettyWhile this is Sunday’s first time attending the Met Gala, it might have been a year too early.
People notes that although “[t]onight marks a very special Met for the 58-year-old actress — who is co-chairing the event alongside Beyoncé, Venus Williams and Anna Wintour — and her 17-year-old model daughter,” the fact that Sunday showed up “seemingly bent the rules on the Met Gala age limit.”
“Invitees must be 18 or older to attend the event, a rule that was brought to light in May 2018,” according to People. That was when former Dance Moms star Maddie Ziegler, who was 15 at the time, told The Hollywood Reporter, “I can’t go, because I’m not old enough!”
Some wondered, per People, if the issue of an age restriction might have popped up due to the fact that the Met Gala’s theme that year was “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.” However, “[e]vent organizers told the outlet that it had nothing to do with the theme, rather an executive decision that “it’s not an appropriate event for people under 18.”
This time around, “[a]s part of the Met’s spring 2026 exhibition titled ‘Costume Art,’ the dress code of this year’s gala is ‘Fashion is Art,'” according to People. “Revealed in November, the 2026 exhibition marks the inauguration of the Costume Institute’s first permanent galleries at the museum.”
Sunday and Nicole Stunned at the Fashion-Focused Event
GettyEven if Sunday is a tad too young, there’s no doubt that both she and Nicole wore gowns that were fabulous pieces of art as the theme requested. While the moviestar mother opted for a dress that radiated pure Hollywood vibes, Sunday went for a piece that was all about being pretty in pink.
Indeed, “[t]he pair walked the carpet together in colorful looks perfect for spring,” per People. “The Babygirl star chose a deep red sequined Chanel gown that debuted in the label’s 2027 Cruise collection. The eye-catching ensemble featured a drop waist adorned with a feather peplum and a small train.”
GettyAt the same time, “Sunday dove right into seasonal florals in a strapless pink and lilac gown with a billowing bodice,” People notes. Beyond that, she took her look up a notch and “accessorized her dress with a matching purse and statement earrings.”
GettyBoth finished their looks with the help of celebrity hairstylist Adir Abergel, who “oversaw the pair’s glamorous hairstyles,” People points out. “Kidman went for a banged-down look while Sunday opted for long tresses parted to the side.”
Fans couldn’t get enough of the duo, and when People shared a couple of photos of their appearance on Instagram, it prompted quite a few comments.
One person wrote, “Stunning!”
“Just beautiful ❤️,” another fan added.
