Meryl Streep Reveals She Attended Her 1st Fashion Show at 76

Meryl Streep is stepping into the fashion world in a whole new way, revealing that she just attended her very first fashion show at age 76 while filming “The Devil Wears Prada 2.”

The Oscar winner shared the moment during SiriusXM’s “Front Row,” explaining that her appearance at the Dolce & Gabbana Spring/Summer 2026 show during Milan Fashion Week marked a first for her. “I was so excited,” Streep said, adding, “It was really exciting, and I didn’t know it was so theatrical,” according to People.

The experience was even more fitting given the context. Streep attended the show fully in character as Miranda Priestly, wearing a camel latex trench coat, white sunglasses and heels. Leaning into the role, she joked about the iconic shades, saying, “Nobody knew where I was looking… that was so good. Now I know why she does that.”

A Full-Circle Moment With Anna Wintour

The moment took on even more meaning as Streep found herself seated across from Anna Wintour, the former Vogue editor-in-chief who is widely believed to have inspired Miranda Priestly.

The two were seen greeting each other at the show, sharing a hug and chatting briefly. Reflecting on Wintour, Streep described her as “so smart and funny and forgiving and understanding.” She also noted that she didn’t get to know Wintour until after the original 2006 film was released.

Despite the real-life comparisons, Streep has always maintained that her portrayal of Miranda Priestly is her own creation. “I just wanted to create my own Miranda,” she said, adding that she imagined who she would be “if I were in charge,” per People.

She also revealed that Wintour has been curious about the upcoming sequel, sharing that the fashion icon reached out to ask about it. “She did call me up and say, ‘What’s this going to be like?’” Streep recalled, adding that she reassured her, “I think it’s going to be good. You’re not going to be worried.”

Streep didn’t stop at Milan Fashion Week. She continued channeling her iconic character at the New York premiere of “The Devil Wears Prada 2” on April 20, stepping onto the red carpet alongside Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci.

For the event, she wore a dramatic red caped Givenchy look styled by Micaela Erlanger, complete with opera gloves and statement jewelry. The outfit was designed to reflect the power and confidence of Miranda Priestly, with her stylist describing it as “her boldest” look of the press tour, per Vogue.

The premiere appearance was part of a larger run of fashion-forward moments for Streep, with each look subtly nodding to her character’s signature style.

Meanwhile, Streep also opened up about returning to Miranda Priestly during a recent appearance on “Good Morning America,” calling the experience a rare opportunity. “It was really fun to come back and revisit a character 20 years later — who gets to do that?” she said, per ABC News.

She added that the sequel explores modern challenges within creative industries, noting, “It’s human creativity… under siege right now in every business.”

With “The Devil Wears Prada 2” set to hit theaters May 1, Streep’s real-life introduction to fashion seems to mirror the world her character has dominated for years.

“It was really exciting, and I didn’t know it was so theatrical.”
