The most decorated actress alive just added another milestone.
Meryl Streep, fresh off her highly anticipated return in The Devil Wears Prada 2, has officially landed a major new Netflix limited series, and the project is already generating serious buzz across Hollywood.
The show pairs her with one of the most exciting creative talents working today. Details on The Corrections have been kept carefully close to the chest, but what Netflix has confirmed makes this one of the most compelling casting announcements of the year.
Meryl Streep Heads to Netflix in ‘The Corrections’
GettyNetflix has given a straight-to-series order for The Corrections, a limited drama based on Jonathan Franzen’s landmark 2001 novel of the same name. The National Book Award-winning story follows a Midwestern family whose three adult siblings each resist their mother’s wish for one final Christmas together, each undone by the very ambitions that were supposed to save them. Streep, a three-time Academy Award winner, will play Enid, the mother at the center of the family’s story.
The project has been in development since 2024 with Streep attached throughout. It began at CBS Studios before moving to Paramount Television Studios following the Skydance-Paramount merger. Netflix entered a competitive bidding situation and outbid several platforms, including Paramount+, to secure the series. This is not the first time Hollywood has tried to bring The Corrections to the screen.
In 2012, director Noah Baumbach developed a pilot for HBO with a cast that included Anthony Hopkins and Ewan McGregor, but the network ultimately passed. More than a decade later, the story has found its home. Franzen is personally adapting his novel for the screen and will executive produce alongside Streep, Jefferson, Mark Roybal, Paul Lee, and Nicole Clemens.
Cord Jefferson Brings His Oscar-Winning Vision to Every Episode
GettyThe director behind The Corrections is Cord Jefferson, whose 2023 film American Fiction earned him the Academy Award and BAFTA for Best Original Screenplay. He also holds an Emmy for his writing work on Watchmen. Jefferson will direct every episode of the limited series, a creative decision that gives the project a unified vision from beginning to end. The Corrections joins Netflix’s expanding prestige drama slate, which has become a major priority for the streamer as it continues to compete for awards-caliber television.
No release date or additional casting has been announced. Netflix confirms the series is in active development.
Meryl Streep is having one of the richest years of her already extraordinary career. A major Netflix series on top of The Devil Wears Prada 2 confirms she is nowhere near slowing down.
Pairing Franzen’s celebrated novel with Jefferson’s acclaimed direction and Streep’s unmatched presence gives The Corrections rare momentum from its very first announcement.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 hits theaters May 1. The Corrections is coming soon to Netflix.
