This week, “The Devil Wears Prada 2” hit theaters around the United States. Moviegoers felt stunned and pleasantly surprised to see beloved singer Lady Gaga appear in the film. Now, the film’s star, Meryl Streep, has come forward to take credit for the cameo.
In a new interview, Streep gushed over Lady Gaga and immediately knew she had to have the singer in the film.
Meryl Streep Wanted Lady Gaga in the Film After Reading the Script
If fans didn’t love Meryl Streep enough, it turns out that she’s a huge Lady Gaga fan.
After “The Devil Wears Prada 2” officially premiered in theaters, fans were excited to see the award-winning singer onscreen. Now, Meryl Streep feels the need to explain.
“That turned out well,” the actress revealed on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” “It was written there would be a pop star that would sing live on a runway in Milan. We were going to have this big show there. I thought, well why don’t we get Gaga, cause she’s so great, and she loves fashion, and… I had her number.”
Streep expressed admiration for Lady Gaga, adding that she called her and asked her to join the film. They filmed the “Just Dance” singer’s scenes during Milan Fashion Week.
“She just said, ‘Yeah.’ I said, ‘Well, I haven’t asked you what I’m going to ask you.’ She said, ‘Anything. What do you want?’” Streep recalled.
“This was a big get for us. We were really, really thrilled, because she’s so spectacular. She’s written three songs for us. She’s a great actress, a little too good in the scene I had with her,” the “Devil Wears Prada 2” star shared.

While Meryl Streep shines as the devious Miranda Priestly onscreen, it seems she couldn’t be kinder in real life. However, she did attend the film’s world premiere in a bold ensemble, completely reminiscent of Miranda Priestly herself.
She and her co-stars, Anne Hathaway, Stanley Tucci, and Emily Blunt, attended the screening dressed beautifully.
GettySurprisingly enough, one of the other stars was considered the “diva” on set.
In an interview with Stephen Colbert, Anne Hathaway revealed that Stanley Tucci is the biggest “diva” out of all the main stars.
“Oh he’s just, he’s so fussy about his clothes!” the 43-year-old laughed. She went on to discuss Tucci’s passion for cooking, but noted that he’s never offered to cook for her.
“I have dropped so many hints that I would love to know,” Anne Hathaway quipped. “I was like, ‘Oh so you went to Italy, and you learned this dish, what’s it like?’ And he’ll tell me, but I have not yet received a crumb. What am I doing wrong?”
“The Devil Wears Prada 2” is now available to see in theaters.
