Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver is discussing the impacts that age and poor sleep have on his health. He made these honest confessions in an interview for the promotion of his new book, “Eat Yourself Healthy: Food to Change Your Life.”
Jamie Oliver Reveals Long-Term Sleep Issues
Oliver is 50, and in an interview with The Times, he reflected on his poor sleep habits, Parade reports. “I have had the worst relationship with sleep,” he confessed. “I am at the end of a decade of only three or four hours of sleep a night, and it’s really dangerous.” Oliver claimed he would “fix it this year.” He added, “But three times a week I wake up at 4.30am and don’t finish until 9pm. It’s too much.”
Oliver did not go into detail about his insomnia, but he has before. In an interview with The Mail on Sunday in December 2014, Oliver said, “For the past decade I’ve been averaging about three-and-a-half hours a night. It got to a point this summer where I had to do something. I knew there was something wrong with me. On a fundamental level I wasn’t functioning like a normal person.”
In Oliver’s recent interview, he focused his chat on living well and how a good diet can make significant changes.

“Beans, beans, beans… They are really good for the planet, setting nitrogen back into the soil, and really good for our gut and people,” he said of eating legumes and their benefits. “The average Brit is majorly deficient in fiber every day. If we should be pushing anything, it should be beans.”
While Oliver tries to maintain a balanced diet, he has been honest about the effects of aging. “I just think I have the cliché aches and pains,” he said of getting older. “I slipped a disc in my back four years ago. All that old-people stuff. I now have to think of my body as an engine rather than a thing that unconditionally works for you.”
Jamie Oliver on Eating Healthy Food
Earlier this year, on May 9, Oliver shared a short video clip on Instagram to promote his new cookbook and how following the recipes can help create a healthier lifestyle. Fans showed their support in the comment section.
“How many Jamie books do I really need? Well, I think minimum this one too!!!” a fan joked. “You’re like the best jolt of happiness and inspiration! I’m preordering,” another person shared.
Other reactions include, “I’m excited about this,” “Pre ordered, looking forward to it. By then I will have forgotten. So I’ll be getting a lovely surprise,” and “oh my goodness!! I can’t for this book!! Thanks Jamie and I look forward to having it in my hands and start creating!!”
