Jamie Oliver has teamed up with British magazine Good Housekeeping UK to share an important and positive message for parents of neurodiverse children.
Oliver, 50, and his wife, Jools, are the cover stars of the 2025 Christmas issue of the magazine this December. They’ll be speaking openly in their interview with the publication about their family life.
In a recent interview with The Sunday Times, Oliver revealed that there had been various diagnoses of dyslexia, ADHD and ASD (also known as autism spectrum disorder) in his “very neurodiverse family” over the course of the previous year.
The celebrity chef, restaurateur and cookbook author didn’t divulge which of his five children have been diagnosed with any of those learning disabilities or disorders, but he’s set to speak more about the challenges he faces in his Good Housekeeping UK interview.
Jamie Oliver Tells Parents ‘You’re Doing Better Than You Think’
In a 26-second video shared by the Good Housekeeping UK Instagram account — a sneak peek of this December’s issue of the magazine — Jamie Oliver speaks candidly to fellow parents of neurodiverse children.
Oliver says, “I know that it’s really emotional to worry about your child. You might be wasting a lot of your time fighting for your kid in school every day, every week, going in, and they might be talking to you like your kid is rude and aggressive or impatient, and they’re not, they’re just frustrated. They’re frustrated because they always feel thick, stupid, and dumb, and unseen. I recognize how hard it is.”
He goes on, saying, “The fact that you care means you’re an amazing parent. Ultimately, it’s about allowing your child to feel confident about the things that they’re good at.”
The video’s caption reads, “Parenting a neurodiverse child isn’t easy – and @jamieoliver knows how emotional it can be. From navigating school systems to helping your child feel understood, it can feel like a constant battle.”
It continues, “His message? You’re doing better than you think. Showing up, caring, and helping your child feel confident in what they love already makes you an amazing parent.”
Oliver Received Praise for His Message — ‘THE BEST Advocate’
GettyThe video’s comments are filled with positivity and gratitude for Jamie Oliver speaking up about this important issue.
One user said, “💯 well done Jamie for highlighting this!! 🙌 Big Love ❤️.”
Another wrote, “Jamie you are just THE BEST advocate for individualized education. BTW whoever styled your hair today…. I am a huge Jamie follower and I have yet to see his hair look as good as it does in this clip, good job whoever did his hair today!”
Additionally, someone else commented, “Amazing @jamieoliver thank you for this. My child is 7 and Neuro divergent, he struggles a lot trying to fit in an already broken system. He is loved and supported at school but it’s still difficult at times. 🙌”
Jamie Oliver is known for standing up for children — his quest to make school meals healthier is bordering on legendary — so it stands to reason that he’d stand up for parents, too.
Well done to him for spreading this positive message to his fellow parents of neurodiverse children. Here’s hoping it helps a lot of people.
