Teen Mom’s Tyler Baltierra Reveals How Autism Diagnosis Has Impacted His Life

Tyler Baltierra has been a star of reality TV since childhood and fans have watched him and his wife Catelynn Lowell Baltierra, grow up. The pair have been incredibly open with their followers, which is why it makes perfect sense for them to create a podcast to address multiple aspects of their lives.

In an August 27 episode of their “Cate & Ty Break It Down” podcast, the focus was on Baltierra’s autism diagnosis and how it has impacted his life. “If I would have known about my stuff, being autistic or being on the spectrum, would that have changed my therapy?” he said, Us Weekly reports. “It got me thinking, ‘Wow, there’s so many things that could have been different.’”

Tyler Baltierra Discusses Signs of Autism

Baltierra reflected on how he struggled with schools and how he had been “kicked out.” He also recalled having “behavioral issues” in school and not being able to “control” himself. It was only when he noticed these behaviors in their daughter, Vaeda, that he thought to get tested as an adult.

“I’m a little bit more of a present parent, I think, than my mom could have been back then with more knowledge about this kind of stuff,” he said. “Just seeing so many things in Vaeda that I’m like, ‘Oh my god, I get why she’s doing that. Oh my god, when I was a kid, I remember doing that, like, wondering why doesn’t anyone understand what I’m saying? Or how important this stupid little thing is to me.’ First thing I noticed is that small things [that] should not be a big deal are a huge deal to her.”

Tyler Baltierra Reveals Previous Diagnosis

Baltierra has received other diagnosis’ prior to autism, including attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder and bipolar disorder, although the latter is not one he readily accepts. He also revealed how, when he was tested for autism, the woman shared insight on his mood swings and how hey could be “based [on] things not going right in your weird little routine” that he was unable to explain or understand.

Baltierra went into great detail about his diagnosis and his feelings surrounding it, and his comments on the podcast have been eye-opening. They have also helped to raise awareness for autism, specifically receiving a diagnosis as an adult.
