GettyBy the time Shields was 21 years old, she had already established an extensive career as a supermodel and a globally recognized actress. She had starred in major blockbuster films, including “Pretty Baby” from 1978, “The Blue Lagoon” from 1980, and “Endless Love” from 1981.
She also became the youngest solo cover model to appear on the cover of “Vogue” at the age of 14. Shields still holds the record to this day, most likely due to “Vogue” editors promising that no edition of the magazine will work with any model under the age of 16 in 2012, according to The Guardian.
When she was 15 years old, she also starred in provocative television and print ads for Calvin Klein Jeans in 1980. One of the controversial lines that she recited during the campaign was, “Do you know what comes between me and my Calvins? Nothing,” which is a double entendre still quoted today.
Shields was the youngest guest star on “The Muppet Show” in 1980 and hosted ABC’s “Fridays” in 1981.
The actress won the People’s Choice Award for “Favorite Young Motion Picture Performer” four consecutive years from 1981 to 1984, according to IMDb.
At the height of her teenage fame, Shields enrolled at Princeton University in the fall of 1983 as a member of the Class of 1987. She temporarily suspended her modeling and acting career to attend the Ivy League school, where she majored in Romance language and literatures, with a focus on French literature, and eventually graduated with honors, according to Princeton University.
