The news of legendary actress Diane Ladd’s death on November 3, 2025, prompted an outpouring of love from Hollywood peers and admirers. Among those grieving Ladd’s passing at 89 are her many Hallmark Channel co-stars and fans.
Ladd appeared on all six seasons of Hallmark’s “Chesapeake Shores” from 2016 to 2022, playing beloved family matriarch Nell O’Brien, mother to the late Treat Williams’ character, Mick O’Brien. Members of her Hallmark family quickly began paying tribute to the Golden Globe-winning actress after her real-life daughter, actress Laura Dern, announced her death.
Meghan Ory Called Diane Ladd a ‘True Icon’
Meghan Ory, who played Abby O’Brien on “Chesapeake Shores,” posted an Instagram photo of her, Ladd and Barbara Niven on the set and wrote above it, “Love you Diane … You had the best advice and the best stories. A true Icon. Rest in peace my friend.”
With Sarah McLachlan’s “Angel” playing in the background, Ory reiterated in her caption, “A true icon @rosedianeladd You will be greatly missed. Rest in peace 🪽❤️”
Emilie Ullerup, who played Bree O’Brien on the show, posted a photo in her Instagram Stories of Ladd with her on set, gently rubbing her temples.
“We lost a warrior today. Funny, wise, strong and full of light and life,” Ulleup wrote, and continued beneath the photo, “Here trying to heal my migraine between setups. Always one to help. 🤍 Rest easy my friend. You have earned it. (Though I’m certain you’re already busy up there)”
Treat Williams’ Family Paid Tribute to Diane Ladd
In June 2023, when Williams died in a tragic motorcyle accident, Ladd paid tribute to him on Instagram, posting a photo of them together and writing, “Treat Williams is one of our greatest actors and human beings. He was my Co-star in Hallmark’s TV series, ‘Chesapeake Shores’ and a loved friend of mine & my daughter (co-starred in ‘Smooth Talk’) who will be missed by us more than words can say!”
Upon learning of Ladd’s death, Williams’ family shared two photos of her. Over one, they wrote, “Sending love❤️❤️” and over another, of her with Williams, they wrote, “‘With the gifted Diane Ladd’ – T.W.”
Hallmark Fans Are Mourning Diane Ladd’s Death, Too
A “Chesapeakes Shores” Instagram fan page that’s still very active for its nearly 45,000 followers posted a tribute to Ladd that said, “It’s with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of our beloved Diane Ladd. Let’s keep her family in our thoughts and prayers. Forever our Nell O’Briend.”
In the account’s stories, the administrators shared the post in their Stories and wrote, “Forever our Gran! 🤍”
Many fans commented on the post, including one who wrote, “I am sad she is gone but relieved she is out of her earthly pain. She was a superb actress and I loved her in Chesapeake Shores!”
Another fan shared, “Beautiful lady. May she rest in peace. Treat will be there to meet her at heavens gate 🙏💕🌸”
