Lacey Chabert Weighs In on ‘Mean Girls’ Christmas Status

In the 21 years since “Mean Girls” was released, October 3 has been recognized as “Mean Girls” Day. Hallmark star Lacey Chabert was one-fourth of the “Mean Girls” foursome, playing Gretchen Wieners, the girl determined to make “fetch” a thing. One question that often arises is whether the film can also be classified as a Christmas movie. After all, one of the most memorable scenes involves the four girls dancing to “Jingle Bells Rock.”

Nowadays, Chabert is best known as the Queen of Hallmark, especially for its Christmas films. Therefore, the “She’s Making a List” star would know better than anyone if “Mean Girls” is truly a Christmas movie.

“I feel like you’re going to get me in trouble with this, but I don’t think it’s a Christmas movie,” Chabert reluctantly admitted on “Good Morning America (GMA).” “Because I think it covers all of the holidays. It’s a whole school year.”

“But I do feel like ‘Jingle Bell Rock’ was kind of foreshadowing my future,” she added.

Lacey Chabert Reveals Filming for Her 2026 Christmas Movie is Just Wrapping Up

Despite the 2025 holiday season officially ending, Chabert also revealed that she was just about done filming “Holiday Ever After: A Disney World Wish Come True,” her first Christmas movie of 2026.

“I am literally on my way to finish filming that movie, and that will be next Christmas for Hallmark Channel,” she said. “And I’m just so excited about it.”

Chabert first announced the film on December 6 during the “Hallmark Christmas Experience: A Hometown Holiday Special.” Since then, fans have seen “The Christmas Quest” star filming all around the park. According to Variety, Travis Van Winkle is Chabert’s leading man this time around. Other cast members include Richard Kind, Christy Carlson Romano, Taegan Burns, and Asher Alexander.

From Childhood Dreams to Princess Reality: Lacey Chabert’s Heartfelt Disney Moment

After announcing the new Disney film, Chabert told Decider that it’s her “dream project.” The “Celebrations” host has only been to Disney World “a few times,” but has been to Disneyland often. When the GMA hosts showed her a photo of herself at Disney as a kid, she got emotional.

“Younger me is in absolute awe that this is my life, and that I’ve had the chance to live out so many dreams,” Chabert said. “It’s such a blessing. And you know, being there, just shooting the promo for that movie.”

“When I walked out, and I was in my princess dress, when I saw the castle all lit up,” she continued. “I honestly started crying because it just touched my heart so deeply. Disney World is such a… and Disneyland, it has such special memories for me and my family. It’s not all the time in life that we get to be in touch with our inner child and feel like a kid again. And that’s the feeling I get when I’m there.”
