‘Mistletoe Murders’ Star Details ‘Real Fear’ Before Welcoming Kids

On Hallmark‘s “Mistletoe Murders,” Sarah Drew plays Emily Lane, a Christmas shop owner with a secret past as an intelligence agent. Lane is single and has no children, which definitely makes it easier for her to spend her free time investigating local murders.

Drew, on the other hand, has been married for 23 years and is the mother of two. However, becoming a mom meant overcoming some fears.

“I was really afraid of failing, like, as a mom,” Drew admitted on Jennie Garth’s “I Choose Me” podcast. “I knew that becoming a mother would require a lot of sacrifice, and I was really content to be pretty self-absorbed. And I think there was a real fear that I would not be able to rise to the occasion.”

The Powerful Realization That Kickstarted Her Pregnancy Journey

“It took me a while to feel ready to even start the process of trying to get pregnant,” Drew explained to Garth. Many of her friends had had kids before she did, but the idea of beginning that journey overwhelmed her.

“I remember hiding, like, with an anxiety attack, in a side room at a baby shower,” she said. “Just because there’s so much joy happening in the room and I’m like, ‘I’m just not ready for this.'”

She thought that if she had all the things she wanted before getting pregnant, she’d feel more ready. Eventually, she realized that she just needed to take a leap of faith.

“The reality is that the table is never set in life,” the former “Grey’s Anatomy” star added. “You are constantly clearing dishes and resetting the table. If you’re waiting for the table to be set for anything, you will never move forward.”

Sarah Drew’s Honest Take: Motherhood is Painful, Hard, and Hilarious

Drew’s kids, Micah and Hannah, are now 13 and 11, and she describes motherhood as an “adventure that is so beyond your wildest dreams.”

“I don’t mean that it’s full of bliss all the time,” she continued. “It is hard, and it is oh so painful at times.”

“Hilariously funny,” she added. “You know, when they get to the age where they start cracking jokes, and they start becoming company instead of work. It’s like this magical transformation where you’re like, ‘You are funny, and I’m enjoying you.'”

They also seem to be following in their mother’s footsteps. “Hannah is really into musical theater,” she told LA Parent earlier this year. “She’s currently in two productions where she’s playing the lead in both.”

Micah, on the other hand, “makes short films and teaches himself how to create special effects by watching YouTube tutorials,” she said. He also starred in “A Christmas Carol” this holiday season, making Drew one proud mama.
