After the cliffhanger that ended Season 1 of “Mistletoe Murders,” Hallmark fans have been waiting impatiently for the story to pick up again. For those who are curious but haven’t watched yet — or want a rewatch — Season 1 will premiere on Friday, October 18, at 8 pm ET/7 pm CT on the Hallmark Channel. Two episodes will air every Friday night. Season 1 will conclude on October 31, and the first two episodes of Season 2 will begin on November 7.
The mystery series stars Peter Mooney and Sarah Drew, with Drew also serving as an executive producer. In an interview with NewsChannel 5’s Talk of the Town, Drew talks about what she loves about “Mistletoe Murders.”
Hallmark Media“I’ve never done a murder mystery,” the “Branching Out” star admitted. “The thing for me that completely sealed the deal, and you’ll see it at the end of episode 1. There is a flashback that happens that literally explodes everything into a new light and makes you go, ‘Oh my gosh, who is this person?'”
From ‘Veronica Mars’ to ‘Alias,’ ‘Mistletoe Murders’ Mixes Genres
As far as Sarah Drew is concerned, there’s no reason not to watch “Mistletoe Murders,” because it has everything. It’s “this incredible combination of cozy Christmas romance whodunnit mixed with murder and intrigue,” Drew explained. “And the bigger question being, who actually is Emily Lane? I kind of get to play someone with a bit of a double life. So we’ve got a little ‘Veronica Mars,’ a little ‘Alias,’ kind of vibes going on.”
Hallmark MediaWhile the attraction between Drew’s Emily and co-star Peter Mooney‘s Sam Wilner is obviously a big draw for many Hallmark fans, the series has something for everyone.
Hallmark Media“It’s got a very kind of moody feel. We’ve been calling it Christmas Noir,” she continued, chuckling. “So it’s really, really fun. It will feel familiar, and it checks all the boxes for all the Hallmark viewers, but there’s a little something extra. And I like it, it’s fun.”
Hallmark MediaSarah Drew Reveals Passion for Executive Producing and Creative Leadership
Another new aspect of Season 2 is Drew’s role in the series. While Season 1 saw her solely as the star, she’s taking on an additional role in Season 2: executive-producing.
“I love executive-producing so much, because I just love the creative process, and I love getting to be in a leadership position,” the “Grey’s Anatomy” alum revealed. “That is one of my favorite things. In the world that I’ve gotten to do it over the last several years, quite a bit.”
“I get to get in there and give script notes, I get to dive in with little, maybe extra romantic beats and things, because that’s what I’m really good at,” she continued. “And then give notes on the cuts and the edits. It’s so collaborative, and I love it so much.”
