As “Party of Five” alum and Hallmark fan favorite Scott Wolf makes his highly anticipated return to FOX’s hit show “Doc,” new reporting reveals his estranged wife, Kelley Wolf, has been placed under her third involuntary psychiatric hold in four months.
People reported on October 14, 2025 — Kelley’s 49th birthday — that she was in the process of being transferred to a new facility in Utah. This news comes after several challenging months for the estranged couple, following Kelley’s announcement of her and Scott’s split on June 10.
Scott, 58, was awarded temporary custody of their three children in late June. Kelley, an alum of MTV’s “Real World: New Orleans,” has struggled to follow court orders since the divorce filing, resulting in four misdemeanor charges against her.
But late in the day on October 14, Scott posted a photo of Kelley on Instagram — the first post he’s personally uploaded since late May — and wrote, “Happy birthday to you. 🎂❤️🩹”
Sources Say Scott Wolf’s Wife Was Placed Under Her 3rd Involuntary Hold in Late September
It is not clear when the photo that Scott shared on Instagram was taken. According to People, Kelley was placed under a court-ordered, minimum 60-day involuntary hold in late September at a mental health hospital in Utah. She and Scott have raised their family in Park City, about 45 minutes south of Salt Lake City.
Kelley will serve out the remainder of that stay at the new rehab and mental health facility, per People, continuing treatment for approximately six more weeks. The outlet reported that sources said Kelley was first admitted to the hospital on September 21 after she made threats toward herself and Scott.
After an interview and examination, a judge in mental health court mandated on September 26 that Kelley remain there and be on prescribed medication throughout her stay, per People. In social media posts since her first involuntary hold in June, Kelley has railed against authorities wanting to prescribe medication, insisting she didn’t need it.
In a September 19 post, she wrote, “Here’s my truth: I’ve only seen a psychiatrist three times in my entire life—each time connected to being involuntarily taken to a hospital during this brutal and unexpected process I have endured. I don’t take psychiatric medication. I’ve always worked with psychologists, coaches, and other mental health professionals instead.”
In People’s October 14 report, a source told the outlet, “She is currently being held against her will as she was deemed a danger to herself and others. Right now, [it’s important] to stabilize her mood with medication. But she is okay.”
Scott Wolf’s Return to ‘Doc’ Was Announced Days After Judge Ruled on Kelley’s Involuntary Hold
Four days after the judgment on Kelley’s mental state and need for extended inpatient treatment, Variety reported on September 30 that Scott would return to the FOX drama “Doc” — not only onscreen, but to direct an episode that will run in early 2026.
Scott starred as Dr. Richard Miller in all 10 episodes of the first season of “Doc,” which premiered in January with record-breaking ratings. But after his character was fired in the season finale from his role as Chief of Internal Medicine at Westside Hospital, his future with the show was up in the air. Felicity Huffman has since joined the cast, playing the new Chief of Internal Medicine.
But Scott, who also broke ratings records with Lacey Chabert in 2023’s “A Merry Scottish Christmas,” will return to the series “in a multi-episode guest arc” later in the 22-episode season, per Variety.
Scott, who has been quiet on social media throughout the last few months, made a rare but brief appearance online in light of the news, sharing the network’s post about his return in his Instagram Stories on September 30 and writing, “Grateful.”

Can’t you leave Scott alone and have privacy? I don’t think the circumstances are out business.
