Christina Haack has perspective now about her three marriages and admits that ex-husband Josh Hall displayed a big red flag when he proposed. See what the HGTV star said about her proposal story, which started with a romantic gesture.
Christina Haack Recalls Ex Josh Hall’s First Red Flag
In an October 1 interview with People, Haack shared the details of her proposal to Josh Hall. It turns out, she initially said “no.”
Haack and Hall, her third husband, met in February 2021 and got engaged in August the same year.
Hall had decorated Haack’s pool terrace at her home for the proposal, but the HGTV star felt the timing wasn’t right.
“The first time he proposed I said no, and he threw the ring in the pool,” she recalled. “That was probably red flag number one.”
Haack added, “I don’t think anyone’s ever heard that story before. Sorry. It’s true.”
“We weren’t getting along super great even then, off and on. When things were good, they were good, but it just felt like I wasn’t quite ready and so I just said, ‘This is not the right time,'” she explained.
“The Flip Off” star noted, “I don’t remember exactly what I said, but he had the patio decorated and he threw it in the pool.”
A representative for Hall told People in a statement: “Josh has no clue what Christina is talking about.”
The couple eventually got married in October 2021. Hall filed for divorce in July 2024. The divorce was finalized in September 2025.
Haack shared that she learned a lot from the relationship. “I learned to protect myself, my children, my finances, and I also truly, I don’t think until this divorce, I learned how much I appreciate peace, freedom, quiet, chill,” she explained.
HGTV Star Shares Latest Life Update
On September 28, Haack took to Instagram to share a look back at her last decade and explain how she’s moving forward in a healthier way.
“I just wanted to thank you all for still being here,” she wrote to her fans. “This past decade for me has been a whirlwind and, at times, a total circus. In early 2024 I decided it was time to get off the roller coaster.”
Haack continued, “Since then I’ve gone through many battles with myself and my ego. Biggest battle has been Embarrassment. Embarrassment over allowing myself to be treated certain ways and having 3 failed marriages — trust me that one hurts and still at times makes me cringe.”
In part, Haack shared that she’s “had to forgive” herself and “trust that things happen for a reason.”
“I’ve had the wind knocked out of me so many times I’m shocked I’m still happy, motivated, and excited about life. But I am,” the HGTV star continued. “I’ll credit this to wanting to change, putting in the work to better understand myself, and only surrounding myself with people who are also happy, motivated and genuinely want me to succeed. That last one is SO important.”
She noted, “If you’re in the tornado, don’t give up. I promise if you decide to make a change and stick with it, life can truly be peaceful, FUN and free. ❤️”
