In a surprise move, HGTV announced on October 1, 2025, that it has not only renewed its hit competition show “Rock the Block” for a seventh season, but that each team will feature HGTV stars past and present, paired with a celebrity partner.
Perennial host Ty Pennington is back, overseeing four new duos as they each renovate identical, newly-built homes in a Las Vegas cul-de-sac, according to Deadline. They’ll have six weeks and $275,000 per team to transform one-level homes that include courtyards, multi-generational suites, and RV garages, the outlet said.
Meet the 4 New ‘Rock the Block’ Teams
The only current HGTV star who will appear in season seven of “Rock the Block” is Scott McGillivray of “Renovation Resort Showdown,” who will be teamed with Brooke Hogan. Best known as late WWE star Hulk Hogan’s daughter, she is billed as a “TV personality and design firm owner.”
Next up is longtime HGTV personality Taniya Nayak, who co-starred with Pennington and best friend Alison Victoria on five seasons of “Battle on the Beach” until it was canceled in early 2025. Nayak will team up with 98 Degrees band member Drew Lachey.
Mina Starsiak Hawk, who spent eight seasons starring on “Good Bones,” will return, teaming up with former NFL star and Super Bowl champion Vernon Davis. “Good Bones” ended in 2023 amid a rift between Starsiak Hawk and her co-star/mom, Karen E. Laine. They appeared separately on a spin-off in the summer of 2024 and Starsiak Hawk has also popped up on other HGTV shows since her own series ended.
Finally, former “Survivor” winner and “Why the Heck Did I Buy This House?” star Kim Wolfe is returning, too, to compete with another “Survivor” winner, Chelsea Meissner. Wolfe confirmed in February that she had decided not to film a third season of her HGTV show in order to spend more time at home with her kids.
Fans Have Mixed Reactions to New ‘Rock the Block’ Lineup
Initial reactions to the new team announcements were mixed, with many HGTV fans commenting on social media that they were confused about the premise. In the past, each team would typically feature two HGTV personalities. The one exception was in season six, when former HGTV star Jonathan Knight worked alongside his brother, fellow New Kids on the Block member Jordan Knight.
One fan on Instagram wrote, “Is this celebrity Rock The Block??? I’m so confused! Brook Hogan??”
“Why? The HGTV stars are great, but why the celebrities?” another asked.
Someone else chimed in, “I’m so confused, 🤔 so where exactly are the designers here? What is happening to @hgtv ?”
Yet another perplexed fan commented, “This is a very confusing line up… I’ll be watching but I’ll be extremely confused the whole time”
But other fans expressed excitement about the shift in teams, with many already rooting for their favorites.
Howard Lee, Chief Creative Officer for Warner Bros. Discovery’s US Networks, including HGTV, said in a statement that “Rock the Block” has been the network’s top show for “four years straight,” noting that they love to “find new ways to amp up the competition, the drama and the fun every season, so we know our fans will keep coming back.”
