Fans Praise HGTV Star for Shining Light on Important Issue: ‘This Is So Needed’

“Fixer to Fabulous” star Dave Marrs is taking his talents beyond HGTV for a new side project. Marrs shared his plan to have a weekly shop talk, kicking it off with a discussion about the value of the trades for future generations.

Dave Marrs Highlights the Trades: ‘It Is So Important’

On January 27, Marrs took to Instagram to share his plan for a new series on social media.

“I’m going to try something new. I’d like to start a weekly shop talk, focusing on products I use, building practices I prefer, and highlighting the trades for future generations,” the “Fixer to Fabulous” star shared in the caption.

“Please shoot me any questions you would like me to answer and I will try my best. Hope you all have a safe, wonderful, snow filled week. #Tradealliance @wholehome_alliance.”

“Today, I really want to talk about the trades in general,” he said in the video. “We are losing craftsmen. We are losing HVAC electricians, plumbers, you name it. They’re aging out faster than we’re replacing them, and it is becoming a big, big problem.”

“For so long, we were told, and we told our kids, ‘Hey, you need to go to a four-year college and get a degree.’ That is no more,” Marrs noted. “You can go into the trades now and there is great opportunity, there is great money in an industry that is growing like crazy.”

The HGTV star noted that he will be discussing the situation more in the coming weeks.

“It is so important and something that I’ve neglected for way longer than I should have, and then other builders and other tradesmen have done the same. But we’re gonna fix that. So, stay tuned,” Marrs shared.

He added, “Over the next couple of weeks, we’re gonna start talking about the trades. We’re gonna talk about a whole home alliance. We’re gonna talk about really building up our industry.”

Fans Praise Marrs for His Message

Marrs’ fans flooded the comments section, praising the HGTV star for shining a light on the trades.

“Totally agree how our emphasis was on ‘college’ education,” one fan noted. “The backbone of this country still has to run on tradesmen — mechanics, lineman, sanitation workers, plumbers, etc. You can’t build house without workers.”

Another fan wrote, “Thank you Dave! I have been telling my high school students this for YEARS! College isn’t for everyone, and I had some uber talented students who were super smart, but college wasn’t their path. I guided them towards trade schools, and I am proud to say, those students are thriving at life! Keep pushing the trades!”

“This is so needed! Our young men and women need to know it’t ok to learn the trades, it’s ok to take a different path, not all young adults have to go to college,” another fan shared. “There should be no shame in not selecting a college.”
