So far, the family hasn’t publicly shared details about the circumstances surrounding Linda’s mother’s passing. Instead, they want to focus on what a wonderful woman she was while she was alive.
“It’s very sad. It was very unexpected,” Drew shared with PEOPLE in an emotional interview. “Habu — all of the grandkids call her Habu. Her name’s Barb, but that was her nickname. But she was a big part of all ten of the grandkids’ lives, and so very missed.”
On International Women’s Day, the 47-year-old noted how thankful he felt that his daughter would grow up with such strong women as role models. He included Barb’s photo.
Although Barb is no longer physically present, Drew Scott says the family remembers her in happy ways.
“In Chinese culture, there’s a lot of celebration of life, whether it’s at the temple or whether it’s at her home. So we’ve had a lot of moments to be able to reflect on how amazing she is,” the HGTV star reflected while speaking with PEOPLE. “We’ve spent the last month with family, and so we’ve all been together, which has been really great, including Linda’s dad.”
