Jasmine Roth lives by the slogan “Build Your Happy,” and now the HGTV designer is unpacking exactly what that looks like for her.
In a new Instagram post, the “HELP! I Wrecked My House” designer put up a carousel of captioned photos, asking fans, “Do any of these things work for you?”
She continues, “I love being on this ride with all of you! I can’t wait to see what’s next. 😘”
On the first photo, which features Jasmine with her 11-month-old younger daughter Darla, the caption reads, “I talk a lot about building happiness. This is what it looks like for me and what seems to work right now… also a few things that don’t work.”
Capturing Little Moments Is Key
While Jasmine Roth says she loves professional portraits like the ones she recently posted of herself and daughters Hazel, 5, and Darla, 11-months, she also believes in the power of capturing quick, casual moments.
She writes, “I don’t wait around for a professional photographer to take photos of me and my girls. Though I do LOVE a pro session every now and then, it takes a couple seconds to do a quick photo and I love being able to look back at these moments captured each day.”
Time Outdoors Is a Key to Jasmine’s Happiness
Whether it’s at Disneyland Paris or a local park, Jasmine Roth says getting outside and enjoying the fresh air is a key component of her happiness.
In fact, she says it was one of the main reasons she and her family moved to Utah- because they spend more time outdoors than they did in California.
“We’re all much happier when we get outside, even if it’s just a quick stop at the park after dinner,” she writes.
Home Reno Projects Do NOT Add to Jasmine’s Happiness
She may be great at tearing other people’s houses apart to put them back together better on “HELP! I Wrecked My House,” but when it comes to her own home, Jasmine Roth does not enjoying living in the middle of a reno.
In her Instagram post, she confesses, “Living in our house while working on it has been tough for me. I’d much rather have the construction on my own home done and be able to work on my clients’ houses.”
Scheduling is a Challenge With Two Young Children
Jasmine Roth admits that the young family struggles to get on a set schedule.
“My work is constantly changing, we travel a lot, and my husband has a personality that is very schedule averse,” she writes.
Jasmine confesses, “It’s hard for me to let go and just let things happen.”
But she’s trying to get better at that, writing, “When I’m able to not overthink it and be more flexible, I’m happier. This is something I have to focus on daily.”
That challenge has likely only increased since her oldest daughter, Hazel, started attending kindergarten a few weeks ago.
Be Silly But Talk About Feelings
Jasmine tells her followers that while she makes sure her girls know it’s good to be silly sometimes and not take themselves too seriously, she also tries to make sure they’re able to talk through big feelings as well.
Balancing Work and Family Is Jasmine’s Biggest Challenge
Jasmine Roth confesses that her biggest challenge is balancing work and family life.
And it’s a message she’s been transparent with fans about many times in the past.
In an Instagram post Jasmine put up just before the family left on a trip to Paris this summer, the designer took followers on a tour of her messy house just after she returned from a work trip.
Jasmine pointed out boxes and clutter, the remnants of snacks and even a plant in the sink, all to show fans that it’s ok if your house doesn’t look perfect.
In the post she wrote, “The house tour we all need to see…probably every single day. A good reminder that social media is a highlight reel! 😘”
In another post, she confessed, “As a working parent I’m constantly struggling – trying to figure out if what I’m doing is the right thing. How I should be spending my time vs how I’m actually spending my time. This conundrum takes up an exorbitant amount of my mental space. And after 5 years I’ve come to the conclusion that there isn’t a good answer.”
Eating Healthy, Purging Unneeded Belongings and Being Grateful Are Key
The HGTV designer’s post goes on to talk about trying to eat healthy and purging her home of clutter and unused items as strategies for a happier life.
But Jasmine Roth’s key message is that being grateful for what she has and accepting that she’s doing her best are her most important tools in building her happy.
“Sometimes I literally have to just go in a quiet room and take a few deep breaths,” she writes. “I love to channel a deep sense of gratitude because [that’s] what usually helps me work through hard times. It’s hard to lose perspective when you’re grateful.”
Jasmine’s final thought to followers is this: “It’s all about us doing our best and knowing that’s good enough.”
