Dave and Jenny Marrs are navigating grief after the recent loss of Dave’s mother, feeling both “joy and sorrow.” The HGTV star gave fans an update on how they’re doing as they take things day by day.
Jenny Marrs Gives Update Following Mother-in-Law’s Passing
On September 26, Jenny took to Instagram to give a small update about the joy and sorrow her family has experienced as they work through the heartbreaking loss.
“Today marks one week without Dave’s mom on earth with us,” she wrote in the caption. “As so many of you understand, grief is a strange thing. We have laughed and we have wept. We have spent so much time with family and we have walked in the strange juxtaposition that life around us just keeps moving steadily along even though we aren’t ready to move with it.”
She continued, “We feel like our feet [are] made of lead, stepping forward feels impossible. Yet, this is life. It’s still happening and we continue to show up for it and embrace every ounce of it because that is exactly how Donna lived.”
Jenny shared some of the high points they have celebrated. “Within the week, we hosted so many family and friends and felt so very loved and carried by tangible gifts of meals and hugs,” she explained. “We watched Charlotte compete for the first time with Sadie (her dream … one her Nana would have LOVED to be there cheering her on for), I drove the boys to Kansas City for their school trip (I’m so exhausted but so thankful for one on one time with the boys. We have had so many good conversations and also laughter), we got in one ride at the fair before the rain came, we have fished and the kids have slumber-partied with Papa.”
She added, “It’s been the weirdest week I can ever remember. As I’ve always said, joy and sorrow so often work alongside one another. This week is no exception.”
Fans Share Words of Love & Support
The comments section of Jenny’s post was flooded with fans sharing words of kindness, love, and support.
“You have such a gift for writing from the heart. I feel every single word,” one fan noted.
Another fan wrote, “The grief will ease but the loss of one so dear won’t and that’s ok. Knowing our God holds us close is so comforting. His grace will see you through.”
“Hugs Jenny,” another fan commented. “It takes time to heal from such a heavy loss. I’m not sure we ever fully heal from losing our Moms, we just face it as a new normal and try to move forward. Sending up prayers for you and your family.”
Others noted, “Aww so well said, sending love and prayers your family’s way” and “I’m so sorry for your loss … it is so tough. Sorrow and joy.”
