Dave and Jenny Marrs each shared touching tributes after saying goodbye to Dave’s mother, Donna, following her recent passing. See how the HGTV stars fondly remembered Donna’s legacy.
Jenny Marrs: ‘We Are Heartbroken But We Are Not Without Hope’
On September 23, Jenny took to Instagram to share photos from the service for Donna Marrs. The day was rainy as they arrived at the church.
She wrote in the caption. “‘Jesus wept.’ John 11:35. Today, we said goodbye to our mom and Nana, and, as the rain poured forth from the heavens, I was reminded of the time Jesus wept for his friend.”
Jenny continued, “He didn’t tear up — He wept — a word implying body-trembling sobs. Despite the knowledge that He was going to call Lazarus out of the tomb, He took the time to grieve in His humanity. I believe He did so to remind all of us, in our times of deep sorrow, that His compassionate arms hold us even as we weep.”
She added, “We have been carried by love. Thank you for praying for our family. We are heartbroken but we are not without hope. 🤍”
The HGTV star also shared special tributes to Donna throughout the day, posting about some of their best-loved memories. On her Instagram Stories, she recalled a trip to Italy that she and Dave took with both of their parents in 2009. “It was a dream trip for so many reasons,” she noted. “I have always been thankful our parents have been great friends. My mom and Dave’s mom were dear friends.”
Jenny included a video of the grandchildren at the service, writing, “This moment today. All her grand babies. Gosh she loved them so deeply and I truly believe they all know it down to their marrow. Blessing upon blessing.”
“Good night friends,” she concluded. “Thank you for holding our family in prayer.”
Dave Marrs Shares His Mother’s Legacy in Touching Video
Dave also shared a touching tribute to his mother on Instagram as they said goodbye. “We laid my mother, Donna May Marrs, to rest today. It was beautiful! So many people from all across the country came because they loved her,” he wrote in the caption. “We had family, friends, and people I had never met that were there because she had a positive impact on their life.”
Dave continued, “About a year and a half ago, Jenny and I had @mike_davello record the history of my mom and dad. We recorded their earliest memories of growing up, memories when they were young and newly married, and finally, having children and grandchildren.”
He shared that the video of this conversation “is truly something I will treasure for the rest of my life.”
The HGTV star added, “I want to leave you with what was most important to my mother. Something she told us every day and wanted us always to remember. This is the person she was. I love you, Mom.”
Jenny commented, “No words could sum up what an incredible legacy of love, service, generosity and compassion she leaves behind. We love you so much, Donna. Always, always will.”
In the video, when asked what she wants their family to remember for the rest of their lives, Dave’s mother responds, “How much we love you, how happy you’ve made us, and that every day it’s a thank you God. Every day and at night, I thank God all the time for that.”
