Michelle Pfeiffer Clears Up Rumors About Retirement

Rumors spread like wildfire in Hollywood, so it wasn’t surprising to hear many people take Michelle Pfeiffer’s comments about not wanting to do movies anymore as her saying that she was retiring from acting. However, the “Batman Returns” actress has made it clear that is definitely not the case.

She appeared on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” where she clarified what her comment about stepping away from movies really meant. She also made it clear that she would be interested in doing another film.

After her success in movies such as “Dangerous Liaisons” and the “Ant-Man” movies, the Hollywood legend quickly worried fans when she said that she was “done with movies.” The comment by itself sounds ominous, but when looking at everything she said to The Hollywood Reporter, it’s clear that she is looking for something more in her career.

She went on to say, “I only want to do ensemble pieces. It’s so much more fun, I love it so much.”

In more recent years, the three-time Oscar nominee has starred in multiple TV projects. She’s recently starred opposite Elle Fanning on “Margo’s Got Money Troubles” on Apple TV and Kurt Russell on “The Madison” on Paramount+. Both shows have been praised for their story development and interesting characters, and the Apple TV dramedy has even earned Pfeiffer an Emmy nomination in 2026.

Jimmy Fallon Gets to the Bottom of the Comments

So, what did Pfieffer mean? After telling Fallon that “it’s the most ridiculous thing” when hearing that people believed she was retiring, she went on to say that she would star in another film. However, at the same time, she clarified that she enjoys the ensemble work of TV shows right now. She also enjoys the time she gets to spend with a character.

One of the downsides of movies is that after a few months of filming, everyone moves on to other projects. When it comes to TV shows, actors get to spend extended amounts of time in their roles, and Pfeiffer expressed, “You can really just go deeper and find all the different layers.”

It’s not the character of Stacy Clyburn on “The Madison,” where she plays a grieving widow, that pulls her into a project like that, though. It’s the whole cast. While on “The Tonight Show,” she shared that she gets to “work with all this talent,” and it’s something that many actors don’t get to do when it comes to movies, as the cast tends to be much smaller.

She did tease that the second season is coming out in possibly February or March. That is always subject to change, as she’s definitely not the first celebrity to share a release month and get it wrong. “Outlander” fans know that well when it comes to Sam Heughan sharing the wrong month.

The “Love Field” actress is a woman of many talents, though. Before getting into the rumors, she shared another passion that she has, and that’s anything to do with tools. After sharing about a toolbelt she got one Christmas, she told Fallon that she’s built a “modest deck” and a mantle, because she didn’t like the one over her fireplace.

If that doesn’t pan out, then maybe ceramics will. She dished that she’s learning ceramics, although she’s “not very good at it right now,” noting that the wheel is a challenging part.
