Beyoncé & Jay-Z Have a Little Back-and-Forth with Teen Daughter Blue Ivy on the Red Carpet & All Parents Can Relate

It was a family affair at the 2026 Met Gala when Jay-Z, Beyoncé, and their 14-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, dressed to the nines for fashion’s biggest night out.

While Beyoncé and Jay-Z had a proud parent moment watching Blue Ivy make her Met Gala debut in a stunning Balenciaga gown, they also shared a relatable parenting experience.

In true kid fashion, Blue Ivy seemingly refused to take off her sunglasses when instructed to do so by her famous dad. Naturally, the moment didn’t go unnoticed and quickly went viral.

A video clip obtained by the Daily Mail appears to show Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, ignoring wishes to remove her sunglasses while attending the 2026 Met Gala.

As the famous family arrived at the prestigious event, assistants were seen advising Blue Ivy to remove her sunglasses. In the clip, Beyoncé’s publicist, Yvette Noel-Schure, gestures for Blue Ivy to take them off as she poses beside her mom, who wore a skeleton-inspired gown by Olivier Rousteing.

Noel-Schure seems to turn to Beyoncé for support in making the request, but it is ignored. Another stylist is also seen gesturing for Blue Ivy to remove her glasses, though that effort doesn’t appear to work either.

Ignoring their requests, Jay-Z steps in front of his daughter, advising her to take off her sunglasses. She again refuses, and it appears that the 14-year-old tells him she will when she walks up the steps.

Regardless of the small mishap, Blue Ivy looked stunning as she arrived at her very first Met Gala. According to Page Six, the Met Gala does not allow anyone under the age of 18 to enter, but there was an exception to the rule for Blue Ivy, with her mom a co-chair for the event.

Beyoncé Reflects on ‘Surreal’ Met Gala Moment With Her Daughter

Beyoncé made a grand return to the Met Gala after last attending 10 years ago, in 2016, when the theme was “Manus x Machina: Fashion In An Age Of Technology.” So it was an especially memorable night for the iconic singer, not just because she broke her 10-year hiatus, but because she returned with Blue Ivy by her side.

Speaking to Vogue during the Met Gala, Beyoncé opened up about attending the event with her daughter. “It feels surreal [to be back] because my daughter’s here. She looks so beautiful. It’s incredible to be able to share it with her, and I think she looks so incredible,” she shared. “She was ready. She is ready,” she added.

In 2024, Beyoncé spoke fondly of Blue Ivy for GQ, calling her “an artist,” and talked about her eldest going on tour with her.

“Blue is an artist. She has great taste in music and fashion. She is a fantastic editor, painter, and actress. She has been creating characters since she was three. She’s a natural, but I did not want Blue onstage. Blue wanted it for herself. She took it seriously and she earned it. And most importantly, she had fun! We all watched her grow more and more every night before our eyes,” she gushed.
