Britney Spears Makes Bold Decision About Her Music Career

Britney Spears is one of the most beloved singers thanks to hits like “…Baby One More Time,” “Toxic,” and several other bona fide hits. Now, it’s being reported that the former “X Factor USA” judge is the latest to sell the rights to her music, following artists such as Justin Bieber and Katy Perry.

According to TMZ, Spears has signed a deal with Primary Wave, which is a music publisher. The deal involves the singer giving up her rights to her back catalog. This comes after the singer stated on social media that she would not return to music, and her latest album was released in 2016.

TMZ has obtained legal documents related to the deal Spears struck with Primary Wave. However, they were unable to determine how much the hitmaker will receive in return for the rights to her music. The outlet does, however, note that Bieber was paid approximately $200 million when he sold his rights in 2023. His catalog went to Hipgnosis Songs Capital.

It’s also worth noting that TMZ learned that Spears, who is managed by Cade Hudson, signed the contract on December 30, 2025. So far, representatives for the singer have not confirmed this, nor has there been any indication of the deal’s parameters.

As mentioned, several other high-profile artists have sold the rights to their musical catalogs in recent years. In additon to Bieber, there’s also Perry, who, according to Variety, sold her catalogue to Litmus Music for $225 million in September 2023.

Other artists who have sold all or part of their rights include Bruce Springsteen, Paul Simon, Neil Young, KISS, Phil Collins, and Stevie Nicks.

She Has One of the Most Lucrative Catalogs

Spears burst onto the music scene in 1999 with the mega hit “…Baby One More Time.” After that, her debut album of the same name was released. Since then, she has released 9 studio albums, with the latest being 2016’s “Glory.”

Some of her biggest hits include “(You Drive Me) Crazy,” “Gimme More,” “Oops!… I Did It Again,” “Womanizer,” and “Hold It Against Me.”

In recent years, there have been reports that Spears may return to music. However, according to The Los Angeles Times, she denied this in 2024. The singer said in an Instagram post, “They keep saying I’m turning to random people to do a new album … I will never return to the music industry!!!”
