Welsh singer-songwriter Duffy had a huge hit in 2008 with her single “Mercy,” then suddenly disappeared from the public eye. In a 2020 blog post, she later revealed the revealed the horrific circumstances surrounding her departure.
In a new documentary for Disney+, Aimรฉe Anne Duffy will publicly discuss the story for the first time.
Duffy Will Share “Unfathomable” Experience
GettyDisney+ head of content for EMEA Angela Jain announced the documentary at Series Mania, reported Variety.
She says the singer “disappeared off the face of the earth and hasnโt really spoken about what happened in that time, other than about five or six years ago in a social media post.”
“She has entrusted us with her story, so we really have a huge responsibility to handle this with care and sensitivity, because sheโs speaking about what happened to her for the first time,” she said in her keynote speech.
As per a press release, the documentary “will be a retrospective film traversing Duffyโs life, from her upbringing in Wales, through to her meteoric rise to fame and her withdrawal from public life following her unfathomable experience.”
The Hulu Original documentary will give “new, unprecedented access to Duffy.”
Gill Callan is slated to direct, The Guardian reported.
“Duffyโs life has been shaped by success and fame, but equally by pain, defiance and an irrepressible sense of self,” he said.
Duffy Told Her Story In A Facebook Post

Duffy penned a 3,600-word Facebook post detailing why she had suddenly dropped from the public view. The horrific experience began when she drugged on her birthday while celebrating at a restaurant. She was then held captive at her own home for days, before being kidnapped and taken abroad.
“It didn’t feel safe to go to the police. I felt if anything went wrong, I would be dead,” she wrote.
Duffy went through extensive therapy before posting about her experience. “I mourned wishing I had been dealt another hand, but it happened, and I have come to terms with it,” she shared.
“I’m doing this to be freed, for all of me to be freed. What follows remains to be seen.”
Duffy rose to fame with her hit single “Mercy.” Her debut album “Rockferry” won a Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Release, and scooped up Brit Awards for best British album, best female solo and British breakthrough.
