Kat Graham Confirms Her Scenes Were Cut From Michael Jackson Movie But Praises ‘Incredible Cast’

Fans eagerly awaiting the upcoming “Michael” biopic may notice one major absence: Diana Ross will not appear on screen — at least not as originally planned.

Actress Kat Graham confirmed that her portrayal of the legendary Supremes icon was ultimately cut from the final version of the film.

Taking to social media ahead of the movie’s Friday, April 24 release, Graham explained the decision was out of her hands.

All About Graham’s Statement on the Soon to Be Released Film

“Ahead of the April 24 release of the Michael Jackson film, I want to share that certain legal considerations affected a few scenes, including ones I filmed with an incredible cast,” she wrote. “Unfortunately, these moments are no longer part of the final cut, though the team worked hard to preserve as much of the story as possible.”

The highly anticipated film, directed by Antoine Fuqua, stars Jaafar Jackson — nephew of Michael Jackson — in the title role.

The cast also includes Colman Domingo as Joe Jackson and Nia Long as Katherine Jackson, alongside Miles Teller, Laura Harrier and Larenz Tate.

While Graham’s scenes won’t make the final cut, her casting had generated buzz due to the real-life bond between Michael Jackson and Diana Ross.

The two first connected during Jackson’s early years with the Jackson 5, and Ross remained an influential figure in his life.

According to family accounts, Jackson even wrote his 1992 song “Remember the Time” with Ross in mind — underscoring just how meaningful her presence could have been in the film.

Jafaar Is Already Receiving Praise

Despite the behind-the-scenes adjustments, excitement for Michael remains high — particularly because of Jaafar Jackson’s performance.

Early reactions from within the Jackson family have been overwhelmingly positive.

Marlon Jackson didn’t hold back when discussing his nephew’s portrayal at the film’s Berlin premiere in March.

“First of all, let me say one thing,” he shared. “I say this every time I speak of this movie: Jaafar is unbelievable.”

For Marlon, the performance carries extra weight given his decades-long relationship with his brother.

“As a matter of fact, I think he’s the only one that could have done this,” he continued. “I’m watching the movie and sometimes I’m thinking I’m watching Michael up there, and I forget ‘Oh, it’s Jaafar.’”

He added, “I’ve been on the side of Michael for umpteen years, so I know—Jaafar is damn good. This is special. It’s a special moment.”

La Toya also gushed over Jafaar’s performance while speaking with Variety.

“Oh my gosh, I have to tell you that Jaafar was absolutely fabulous,” LaToya said. “I’m sure you’ve seen the movie and you know how wonderful he is, how we all forget and think that we’re watching Mike. It’s like, ‘Oh, I forgot this is Jaafar.’”

The film traces Jackson’s journey from his early days in Gary, Indiana, with the Jackson 5 to his rise as one of the most influential entertainers of all time.

While some elements — including Graham’s scenes — won’t be part of the final version, the project still promises an intimate and ambitious look at the King of Pop’s life.

And even without every planned moment making it to screen, the film is already shaping up to be one of the most talked-about music biopics in years.
