Billy Ray Cyrus turned 64 with a gift only his daughter could deliver — brand-new music. Singer, actress and former “The Voice” coach Miley Cyrus surprised her father with an unreleased song, “Secrets,” that features members of the legendary band Fleetwood Mac.
Miley Cyrus’ Birthday Sweet Surprise for Her Dad
Billy Ray shared the special moment on Instagram Monday, writing: “For my birthday, Miley gave me the gift of music and wrote me a song called Secrets and got my favorite musicians Fleetwood Mac to play on it! I love you Mile ❤️.”
The country star posted a video of himself walking through a grassy field while listening to the track on his phone. With shimmering ‘80s-style guitars and lyrics like, “Secrets, I want to keep your secrets/Like sunlight in the shadows/Like footsteps in the grass,” the song set an emotional tone for the milestone celebration.
Band members Lindsey Buckingham and Mick Fleetwood lent their talents to the track, making the collaboration even more meaningful for Billy Ray.
A Song Inspired by Family
Miley revealed earlier this summer that the idea for “Secrets” was born from her relationship with her dad. Speaking on Monica Lewinsky’s podcast in June, the “Flowers” singer said the song reflects moments of vulnerability and trust.
“I wrote this song about my dad,” Miley explained, “because I wanted him to tell me even though there were secrets, even though I didn’t really want to know. I wanted to be the one he felt safe enough to tell me the things that were damning and damaging to the family. I wanted him to think that as a middle child, I’m old enough that I could take some of that.”
While Miley acknowledged that her family faced challenges following Billy Ray and Tish Cyrus’ 2022 divorce, she emphasized that they’ve since come together.
“Half of us weren’t speaking to each other at one point, and we cleaned all that up,” she said. “That was a really important part of my year this year, was all of my family putting those lines of communication back together.”
Instead of dwelling on the past, Miley said she chose joy. “I just kind of bust through the pile that’s stacked, and just go, ‘I’m here. You’re here. Let’s start by having a good time together,’” she shared.
A Family Celebration
The birthday surprise quickly drew warm reactions. Billy Ray’s girlfriend Elizabeth Hurley commented on the post, “Happy Birthday and what a beautiful video to a beautiful song by your beautiful daughter ❤️❤️❤️.”
The couple also supported Miley earlier this year when she premiered her latest album, Something Beautiful, in London.
