Selena Gomez is opening up about her emotional reaction after tying the knot with Benny Blanco. The 33-year-old singer and actress revealed she was “sobbing” and overwhelmed by fear the day after their wedding, sharing that she often struggles to fully enjoy life’s happiest moments.
Speaking at Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Conference in Washington, D.C., Gomez explained, “This is how I work personally — when something great happens in my life, I expect something bad to happen.” She added, “Instead of being present and saying, ‘Wow, we’ve done a great thing,’ I always think, ‘This could all go away tomorrow.’” Gomez said the same thoughts surfaced right after her wedding, admitting, “I got married and then I was sobbing because I was like, ‘I’m gonna die the next day.’”
A Beautiful California Ceremony
Gomez and Blanco, 37, exchanged vows on Sept. 27, in an intimate ceremony held in Santa Barbara, California, according to People. The bride wore a custom lace Ralph Lauren gown, while Blanco opted for a classic black tuxedo and bowtie. Close friends and celebrity guests including Taylor Swift, Steve Martin, Paul Rudd, and Martin Short were in attendance. Swift even gave a playful speech at the reception, celebrating the couple’s two-year relationship and shared sense of humor.
The couple first confirmed their romance in December 2023, after years of friendship and musical collaborations. They announced their engagement in December 2024, and tied the knot nearly a year later. Blanco celebrated the occasion on Instagram, calling Gomez his “real-life Disney princess.”
Reflecting on Mental Health and Love

Gomez, who has long been candid about her mental health journey, also discussed how therapy and self-awareness have shaped her outlook. During a recent appearance on Jake Shane’s “Therapuss” podcast, she spoke about her experience living with bipolar disorder and the importance of staying open about mental health. “I tried to share my story in hopes that it would help others,” she said. “I just believe in therapy. I’m on medication, and I feel really lucky that I’m in the position that I’m in now.”
Gomez also reflected on how her connection with Blanco evolved over the years — from collaborators to life partners. “To be honest, we weren’t besties — I just thought he was nice, and then we did a few songs together,” she recalled. Their bond deepened after reconnecting in 2023 to work on “Single Soon.”
Now, weeks after their wedding, Gomez said she’s learning to find balance between joy and vulnerability. “I think that’s my biggest conflict sometimes when wonderful things happen,” she told the conference audience. “But I’m working on just letting myself feel happy — even if it scares me.”

Gluten may be hurting her causing bipolar and other health issues. Gluten is in wheat/barley/rye…oats/corn/rice. Rice is low in gluten. Wild rice/buckwheat have no gluten. Dairy/soy/sugar/GMO corn, soy, canola oil may also hurt. Gluten may hurt the gut lining so less nutrients absorb….then cells are not made right to work right. Hair test to see good minerals/heavy metals on Amazon may help. Lithium orotate and replacing other low good minerals and detoxing heavy metals may help.
She is very pretty. I am glad she got married. Glad she is married to someone who she was friends with. God bless her and this marriage!
