Fans of “Bridgerton” have not only fallen in love with the charming characters and swoon-worthy story-lines, they also adore the idyllic locations. That includes the home where the Bridgerton family resides. English Heritage notes that “[w]ith lilac-coloured wisteria draped across its facade, it’s hard to imagine a more iconic family home currently on our screens.”
In real life, the frontage of the pretty property is a former royal abode called Ranger’s House.
“Netflix chose the exterior of Ranger’s House to film the Bridgerton residence and it’s here, behind these opulent iron gates, that much of the action takes place during the fictitious social season of 1813,” per English Heritage.
“Ranger’s House is portrayed in Bridgerton as a cosmopolitan London home, but in reality the Georgian villa was built away from the bustle of the city on the edge of Greenwich Park,” English Heritage explains.
A Princess & Duchess Have Called Ranger’s House Home
Ranger’s House was “[o]riginally designed for the Admiralty in 1723,” and the impressive home “has passed through many elite hands,” English Heritage points out. “In its 300-year history it has welcomed home members of the royal family, aristocrats and politicians.”
English Heritage also notes that “[w]ithin the same time period as Bridgerton is set, Ranger’s House belonged to Augusta, Duchess of Brunswick, the elder sister of George III. Two years later Princess Sophia Matilda of Gloucester, a niece of George III, moved in, and to this day she’s regarded as its longest-serving resident.”
You Can Visit Ranger’s House, a.k.a. the Bridgerton Home
“Bridgerton” viewers and art-lovers alike will appreciate the famous former residence. Indeed, “[f]ans who fantasize about living at the Bridgerton household will want to take a picture in front of Ranger’s House,” according to People. Beyond that, “guests can … venture inside to see 19th-century businessman Sir Julius Wernher’s vast art collection, consisting of over 700 works of Renaissance art, medieval sculptures and jewelry pieces.”
Indeed, Visit Britain explains that “this red-brick Georgian mansion is home to the Wernher Collection, a top-notch private art collection chock-full of medieval and early modern European art.”
Beyond that, Visit Britain points out that “[v]isitors can tour The Wernher Collection, featuring more than 700 works by artists including Botticelli, Monvaerni and Metsu.”
When English Heritage posted about Ranger’s House on Instagram, one person responded by leaving a comment, saying, “The highlight of my trip to England last summer was visiting the Bridgerton filming locations. 😍”
