Reeling from the success of “Bridgerton” Season 4, Shonda Rhimes is already thinking up new ideas for the show’s universe. And fans of the show will also be pleased to know that includes a new spinoff idea!
In chatting with NBC’s Craig Melvin for the “Glass Half Full” podcast, Rhimes revealed that she knows which “Bridgerton” character she would create a spinoff for next.
Shonda Rhimes Would Love to Create a Spinoff for Violet Bridgerton
While on the “Glass Hall Full” podcast, Shonda Rhimes talked about “definitely” creating more spinoffs for the “Bridgerton” world
“That’s an area that we’re excited about and know that that could be really rich and really mined well,” she revealed to Craig Melvin.
The Shondaland founder also knows exactly who she would want to see more of: Violet Bridgerton.
“I’ve always said that I thought if we were going to do something like that, Violet would be a great person to tell the story about—the Bridgerton mom,” Rhimes said on the podcast. “Yeah, that’s a possibility.”
The matriarch of the Bridgerton family has certainly had an eventful few seasons. Violet, a widow of many years, began to explore a new love interest in Lord Marcus Anderson, the brother of her friend, Lady Agatha Danbury (per Netflix).
A Violet Bridgerton spinoff could delve into her younger days before becoming a wife and a mom, much like the popular “Queen Charlotte” limited series. It could also center around her meeting her husband, Edmund, years before his untimely passing.
Shonda Rhimes Also Teased Other Ideas Beyond ‘Bridgerton’
GettyThough “Bridgerton” has been a worldwide success, Shonda Rhimes is thinking about other show ideas that could be new hits for Netflix.
“We’re currently developing other projects that are a very different world from ‘Bridgerton,’ because, while ‘Bridgerton’s’ amazing, we always continue to want to stretch and grow,” Rhimes told Craig Melvin on “Glass Half Full.”
Her company, Shondaland, has been in existence since 2005. Rhimes and Shondaland officially entered into business with Netflix in 2017.
When Melvin asked for more details about her ideas, Rhimes revealed that she is really interested in science fiction. “I don’t know when we’re going to have a sci-fi project,” she admitted. “But I do know it’s something I really, really want.”
The creator of “Grey’s Anatomy” revealed she would also love to develop a female action series.
According to Tudum, other series ideas that Rhimes has developed for Netflix include “Inventing Anna,” “Black Barbie,” and the canceled series, “The Residence.”
