Dan Levy says his dad Eugene is “already quoting lines” from his new Netflix series “Big Mistakes.”
The pair previously worked together on the beloved series “Schitt’s Creek,” which also starred Catherine O’Hara and Annie Murphy.
Family Inspired Dan Levy’s “Big Mistakes”
GettySpeaking to PEOPLE at the premiere in New York City, Levy revealed dad Eugene had flown in especially for the big night.
“He came all the way from Canada to support,” he said.
He added that his parents had already seen the show and were reportedly big fans.
“They’re already quoting lines from it, and they’re very excited to watch it again. So, that’s all I could ask for,” he shared.
GettyLevy’s relationship with his sister, Sarah, was also an inspiration for “Big Mistakes.” She previously appeared alongside Levy in “Schitt’s Creek.”
“We’re in a far better place now that we’re older and wiser. But… anyone who has a sibling, I think, will recognize themselves in the show,” he said.
“It was really about authenticating the experience of that sibling dynamic and just exacerbating all of the bickering in the light of, like, intense criminal activity.”
Levy and Taylor Ortega star as siblings blackmailed into joining the world of organized crime.
“I just kept thinking about being blackmailed into crime. It scares the s*** out of me; I would not do well if I ever found myself in that situation,” Levy told Variety.
He revealed that carrying on the theme of family dynamics after “Schitt’s Creek” was also intentional.
“I just think family dynamics are the funniest. Families in times of insane crisis — that can be the funniest times,” he said.
“I’m often laughing in times of insane crisis, so I’m endlessly fascinated by it. I think it’s also just a really excellent way of revealing character. So I knew I wanted to make another family show.”
Levy Is “So Proud” Of New Project
GettyLevy told PEOPLE he is “so proud” of the “Big Mistakes” cast and crew.
“I have to say, when I left “Schitt’s [Creek],” I really wanted to make sure that the next thing I did in TV gave me that same sense of inspiration and passion and excitement and love and affection for the people I was working with — and it did,” he explained.
“I love these people so much. I’m so proud of this cast and crew. People are working at, like, 110%. All I did was set the table for these people, and they ate.”
He also revealed “Big Mistakes” has plenty more stories to tell.
“So, this is just the cherry on top of a really, really special experience, and I hope we get to tell this story for seasons and seasons and seasons,” he shared.
“Big Mistakes” is available on Netflix.

LOVED Schitt’s Creek, but this small mess of a series is a rehashed GOOD GIRLS; the idea’s pretty sound, but the haphazardness of the choppy cinematography and constant nervousness of the characters had us here strop after three episodes.
