K-Pop Makes Grammy History with First Win

“KPop Demon Hunters” made history at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday when its hit song “Golden” won Best Song Written for Visual Media. The win marks the first time a K-pop act has taken home a Grammy, highlighting the growing global influence of Korean pop music.

The song, performed by the fictional girl group HUNTR/X and written by Ejae, Mark Sonnenblick, and collaborators, has dominated streaming platforms and international charts since the Netflix film’s release in June 2025.

“Golden” has become a global anthem, proving that a soundtrack from an animated feature can achieve mainstream musical success. Fans praised the song for its catchy melody and emotionally resonant lyrics, which have helped it reach audiences far beyond traditional K-pop fans.

K-Pop’s Expanding Presence at the Grammys

The award ceremony, held at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena, included performances from top artists across genres. Industry experts called the recognition of “Golden” a milestone for non-English music. Variety reported that streaming numbers and chart dominance were major factors in the song’s nomination and eventual win.

The Grammy victory comes amid growing representation for K-pop artists in major categories. In November 2025, Rosé of Blackpink became the first K-pop artist nominated as the main performer in one of the awards’ biggest all-genre categories, for her collaboration with Bruno Mars on “Apt.,” which is up for both song and record of the year.

K-pop’s influence also includes new acts. Kateseye, a girl group formed with the label Hybe, received a Best New Artist nomination. While the group’s music is not strictly K-pop and its members hail from several countries, the nomination reflects the genre’s increasing impact in global music.

Breaking Barriers in Entertainment

Since its release, “KPop Demon Hunters” has shattered streaming records on Netflix and driven the soundtrack to international prominence. Billboard reported that “Golden” held top spots on multiple global charts for weeks, reflecting the song’s enduring popularity and wide audience appeal. The track also received a 2026 Oscar nomination for Best Original Song and won the same category at the Golden Globes in January.

The Grammy win for “KPop Demon Hunters” signifies more than a personal victory for its creators. It reflects the growing recognition of K-pop in mainstream music awards and the increasing global influence of non-English music. As fans celebrate this milestone, “Golden” may inspire more K-pop artists to break barriers and secure recognition at the Grammys in the years to come.
