As “Silo” Season 3 gets closer to the end, you’re likely looking for something to watch that will give you the same vibes. What about shows that are much better than dystopian series? Netflix has some excellent dystopian horrors and thrillers that will knock you off your feet.
One of the great things about dystopian shows is that they bring mystery and intrigue. They bring conspiracies, and you’ll certainly start to question everything you hear. Of course, there are some similar shows like “Snowpiercer” and “Fallout” on other streaming platforms, but what about making the most of your Netflix subscription and what about finding a better series to watch?
This is no shade to “Silo,” though. It’s a great show, but these three from the streaming giant are worth checking out.
‘Dark’
When it comes to sci-fi shows that completely bend the mind, “Dark” is a must. The three-season series follows the people of a small German town when two children go missing. It leads to the double lives of the people being exposed, as four families do everything they can to find the children.
One of the things that draws people into “Silo” is the puzzle box element, and that’s exactly what “Dark” also includes. Everyone has some sort of connection to the dark past of the town, and there are plenty of stories told over the years that will have you wondering who is telling the truth and how the stories have been manipulated out of the need for control. On top of that, there are supernatural elements that will leave you hiding behind the pillow now and then.
‘1899’
While it only lasted for one season, “1899” is a must-watch. Hailing from the “Dark” creators, this puts the mystery on a ship. You get a similar locked-in vibe that “Silo” offers, as everything happens in one place. Only, this time, there are two ships, as one of them is mysteriously stranded in the middle of the ocean. That’s the puzzle to figure out — how did it get there? What happened to the passengers? What is going on in the middle of open water?
There’s a sci-fi element to the series, as while the characters are from 1899 at first, there is a future element to the story. You’re taken on a wild ride, and even the cliffhanger ending is worth the frustrating experience because of how well written and developed this first season is. With paranoia and unreliable storytelling, this brings the same sort of questions “Silo” does in a grander way.
‘Alice in Borderland’
Like “Dark,” “Alice in Borderland” ran for three seasons on Netflix, and it recently came to an end. The good news is that there are talks of spinoff shows because of how wonderful it is. And this is a series that had long breaks between seasons and still kept its viewership, showing just how excellent it is!
“Alice in Borderland” brings an element of “The Hunger Games” to the story, as the people of Tokyo find themselves blocked in the city. They have to play a lethal game to fight through the city as they find artifacts, almost adding more of a video game element to the “Silo” story. Mix with the political intrigue, the development of bonds and friendships, and the central mystery of who built the city, you end up with a conspiracy-driven series that rivals “Silo” considerably, especially if you love action as well as puzzles.
