This Is The Second Kidney Replacement Bijou Phillips Needs

Phillips received a kidney transplant in 2017 after being rushed to the hospital with a fever. The donor was a friend; however, TMZ reports that the kidney has failed, and she needs another one.

She suffered many complications from the first transplant, including the BK virus, which is usually inactive in someone’s body, but can be triggered by a transplant. It is a “virus that most people get in childhood,” with symptoms being described as “a common cold,” according to the National Kidney Foundation.

Following the transplant, her ex-husband Danny Masterson posted on social media with a sweet message.

“My lady has been slowing dying for the past 7 years of an incurable kidney disease. She was given the gift of an encore by a tall angel. Our daughter will have a mother,” he wrote and included a photo of her in the hospital, per People. “We do not take lightly how incredibly fortunate we are. 100% successful transplant. Now the real work begins for her to silence any chance of rejection. Our deepest gratitude to a perfect transplant team. And a life owed to a tall drink of water. Sláinte!”
