Chelsea Handler admitted she once cooked up a huge lie about Goldie Hawn in a clever childhood attempt to use the “First Wives Club” star’s name for clout. According to a March 23 Page Six report, Handler shared this information while hosting the recent Aspen Snow Ball Gala, a pediatric cancer fundraiser where Hawn was honored with the Philanthropic Impact Achievement Award.
GettyDuring her presentation, the report says Handler told the crowd that in 3rd grade, she informed her schoolmates she’d been cast alongside Hawn in the sequel to “Private Benjamin” as the Hollywood icon’s daughter.
The story quotes a source as revealing, “They all believed her and treated her like a queen, and she was nominated for Girl Scout troop leader as a result.”
Chelsea Handler Revealed How She Got Close to Goldie Hawn After Idolizing Her as a Kid

Handler also reflected on managing to actually get to know Hawn for real as an adult, joking that she “single white female’d” her way into Hawn’s orbit by forming a connection with Hawn’s partner of over 40 years, Kurt Russell.
On a more serious note, she reflected on the reason for the star-studded gathering, saying, “This night is about generosity. About showing up for other people,” per the Aspen Times report. The outlet says Hawn then took the stage and said during her comments, “I love hearing people laugh,” she said, giggling softly. “Laughter gives people strength. It makes them healthier. I just love that I’m alive.”
Kurt Russell Was at Goldie Hawn’s Side for Aspen Snow Ball
GettyRussell, to whom Hawn has been romantically linked since the early ’80s, was by her side to support her as she was honored at the charity gala. Page Six says he was the first to jump to his feet and applaud after she was presented with her award, and that the pair then danced the night away to a live performance by Wilson Phillips, who performed their hit 1990 “Hold On.”
Hawn’s daughter, Kate Hudson, did not attend due to losing her voice during awards season, per the report. However, Page Six says the “Song Sung Blue” Oscar nominee did send a video message to congratulate her mom, and also jumped on a FaceTime call with Russell to catch the live performance of the Beach Boys hit “God Only Knows.”
