Ellie Kemper Describes ‘Rare’ Friendships With ‘The Office’ Cast

Despite “The Office” wrapping up over a decade ago, the hit series remains a fan-favorite. Not only do viewers reminisce about the show, but the cast members do, too.

Ellie Kemper, who played Erin Hannon when season five rolled around, had previously touched on the deep connections formed within the cast, but she recently shared more insight into just how tight-knit these friendships are.

Between text threads, podcasts and interviews, the crew has developed a significant bond over the years.

According to Kimberlee Speakman and Amanda Champagne-Meadows of People.com, Kemper stated, “Isn’t it the gift of a lifetime? I feel like I won the lottery getting cast on the show because it is so organic, and it is a very natural friendship that we share, which feels rare.”

The 46-year-old actress revealed there is still an active text thread with all of the former cast members, adding “everybody’s still very much connected.”

Kemper also shared her thoughts on why the show resonated with such a wide variety of viewers. Regardless of background, “The Office” managed to capture the lives of many.

In her words, “There’s a character for everyone in your life. Like you can say, ‘Oh, that’s Uncle Kenny, [or] whatever.’ It is like you see people in your life in that show, and I think that makes it easy for audiences to relate [to].”

Fans of the show often bond over endless inside jokes and humor created from the show — it is the type of humor that does not go out of style. As Kemper mentioned, it’s because it’s relatable. It’s real.

Rainn Wilson Still Brings the Comedy

To the surprise of no one, celebrated actor Rainn Wilson keeps things alive in the chat, as humorously stated by Kemper.

“I’d say Rainn Wilson sends some pretty funny messages on that thread,” she said in response.

Having played one of the most beloved characters on the show, “Dwight,” it only seems fitting that Wilson is the first one who comes to Kemper’s mind when thinking about humor in the thread. Wilson’s role in the show often brought some of the loudest, uncontrollable laughs.

Years Later, Laughs Continue

Several years have passed since the finale aired, but the cast remains close and represents what the show did for fans — it brought people together for a good time.

Since the first episode of season one aired in March 2005, fans quickly became attached to the series. Each character offered a new perspective and more nonchalant humor, welcoming fans into the familiar lives of those working at Dunder Mifflin.

The show ran until May 2013, but many viewers still find themselves laughing along to the continuous cycle of reruns.

For cast members and fans alike, Kemper is correct in saying that the show has been “the gift of a lifetime.” The statement stands true to this day.
