Armani Reflected on Regrets & Shared His Succession Plans

In his final sit-down with the Financial Times, Armani admitted that his biggest personal regret was not spending more time with family. The self-confessed workaholic, who was deeply involved in every detail of his shows, said, “My only regret in life was spending too many hours working and not enough time with friends and family.”

Armani also spoke candidly about his wishes for the future of his global brand, explaining how he wanted responsibilities to gradually pass to those closest to him. “My plans for succession consist of a gradual transition of the responsibilities that I have always handled to those closest to me,” he said, “such as Leo Dell’Orco, the members of my family and the entire working team.” Dell’Orco currently serves as head of men’s design for the Armani Group.

“I would like the succession to be organic and not a moment of rupture,” Armani added.

“Il Signor Armani, as he was always respectfully and admiringly called by employees and collaborators, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones. Indefatigable to the end, he worked until his final days, dedicating himself to the company, the collections, and the many ongoing and future projects.”
