Julia Roberts Makes Rare Comments About Her Kids

Julia Roberts has always been honest about how much she values being a mom. While she has always maintained her family’s privacy, she has given glimpses over the years into her life with husband Danny Moder and their three children, 20-year-old twins Phinneas and Hazel, and 18-year-old Henry.

“When I’m not working, [being a homemaker] is my full-time job,” she told CBS Sunday Morning in 2022. “It isn’t rainbows and kittens every day, but it does bring me a lot of joy. It’s just never consumed me, being an actor. It is my dream come true, but it is not my only dream come true.”

Recently, her longtime pal George Clooney interviewed her for 72 Magazine. While expressing admiration for her parenting skills, he also asked for some advice. The “After the Hunt” actress was happy to give it, and also revealed that she was a “stricter” mom to her kids.

Julia Roberts Opens Up About Parenting and Social Media Boundaries

During the course of interviewing his good friend, Julia Roberts, for 72 Magazine, the conversation turned to social media, the internet, and their children. “Did you limit their access to it or did you just talk it through?” Clooney asked (via Us Weekly).

“I think they were, for sure, some of the last kids in their peer groups to get phones and stuff like that,” Roberts admitted to the “Ocean’s Eleven” star. “When they were younger, certainly, Danny and I would have been considered some of the stricter parents. Not like we’re laying down the law, but these are the rules and they don’t change. Here’s the boundary of your life and it does not shift. You know, you don’t ask me and get an answer and then go ask dad and get a different answer. That doesn’t happen. It will never happen.”

“I think that is what creates the stability that then allows them to feel secure because you know there is this fixed world of love and safety that exists unconditionally,” she added.

Julia Roberts Shares Her Family’s ‘Simple Rules’ for Phone Use at Home

In 2023, the “Pretty Woman” star explained some of her family’s rules for cell phones.

“For us, we just had sort of simple rules where we had a charging station where everybody’s phone goes when you get home,” she told “Today.” “There is no phones at the table, certainly.”

Despite her desire to keep cell phone use to a minimum at home, she’s not blind to its advantages. She praised the fact that, while traveling to promote her most recent film, her entire family was still able to connect.

“Right now, me being away, and so, Henry and Danny are home,” she told Hoda Kotb. “And then I’m in another time zone, and then Phin is somewhere and Hazel is somewhere, and we all were on a FaceTime, together, all of us, and it was so fun. I might have had like a towel on my wet head, but we were all so happy to be together in that way.”

“We are all still so deeply in love,” she added of her family.
