Ryan Phillippe shares two grown children with his ex, Reese Witherspoon. While talking with People, he opened up about how his son, Deacon Phillippe, is like the actress. Ryan was up for a chat during his appearance at J.Crew’s takeover of 190 Bowery in New York City on Tuesday, September 9.
After Ryan praised his son, Deacon responded by telling People, “Honestly, I just wake up every day, [and] try to be the best person I can. I couldn’t do any of it without God, and I work my butt off, so to speak.”
Ryan not only agreed, but also brought Reese into the discussion, saying, “He does. He’s got his mama’s work ethic. He absolutely does.”
Ryan Phillippe Has Revealed How His Children Are Like Him
This isn’t the first time Ryan has revealed how his son, Deacon, is like Reese. He’s also noted how his daughter, Ava, is like the “The Morning Show” star. When Ryan appeared in People’s Sexiest Man Alive issue in 2021, he was a little cheeky while talking about his son and daughter, saying, “They’re both better looking than me, thankfully.”
He then brought up Reese, adding, “They obviously have a very pretty mom.”
Ryan also noted how his two older children take after him, saying, “Deacon and I connect very heavily in regard to music. He’s like my best friend, and Ava is very much my personality.”
“They’re very self-possessed, conscientious people who care about the world, who treat people with respect and take care of themselves,” the keen celebrity father continued.

Beyond Deacon and Ava’s personalities, Reese’s daughter also happens to look a lot like her mother.
“Reese Witherspoon and Ava Philippe walk the line of being impossible to tell apart,” E! News noted in April 2024. The publication continued by adding that “the Legally Blonde star and her 24-year-old daughter almost looked like twins while posing for a photo at Tiffany & Co’s launch of its Blue Book 2024: Tiffany Céleste collection in Los Angeles April 25.”
Reese herself addressed the fact that the two look alike while talking with Vanity Fair in February 2017, saying, “I do see the resemblance. She’s a beautiful person inside and out. She’s just a good soul. I’m not sure what she thinks. I’m just ‘Mom’ to her. … I really have a rich, personal relationship with my daughter. I have a really great career, and it’s nice to be able to share it with my kids.”
