Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos Reveal Unexpected Truth About Their Marriage

Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos revealed an unexpected truth about their marriage during a new episode of “Live With Kelly and Mark.”

The couple found themselves sharing relationship details as they discussed a historic blizzard that blanketed the New York City metropolitan area in over a foot or more of snow. “Live” went on as scheduled, without a studio audience, and just essential production crew in the studio.

According to PEOPLE, Ripa and Consuelos, both “All My Children” alums, chose to stay in a hotel directly across from the show’s Hudson Square set instead of returning to their townhome on the Upper East Side of New York City.

She told viewers, “Mark and I spent the night in a hotel last night. The hotel across the street from the studio. Which, I thought would be an easy commute, but as it turns out, it was a very difficult commute because drudging through the snow [was hard] and the wind was very blustery.”

It appeared that not all the staff were present. Series producer Michael Gelman was unable to return to New York City due to the historic storm and was in Florida. This led Ripa to joke she was “thrilled that we rushed home from Palm Springs and the 80-degree sunshine.”

The Marriage Confession That Surprised Longtime Viewers

As they discussed the storm, which was a huge topic of the morning’s news in New York City and its surrounding areas, Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos made a surprising declaration about their marriage.

PEOPLE reported the Consuelos told viewers, “This happens as you said, every 10 years.” Ripa continued, “We’ve been together for every major blizzard that has struck this city.”

Ripa’s husband sweetly added he hoped he and Ripa were “together for a few more.” However, she deadpanned, “May we never endure another blizzard.”

How Long Are Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos Married?

Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos have been married for 29 years. They met on the “All My Children” set in 1995. Consuelos was auditioning for the role of Mateo Santos, a love interest for Ripa’s Hayley Vaughn.

Less than one year later, the couple eloped to Las Vegas. Their quick romance was due to the instant chemistry Ripa said she had with Consuelos upon their first meeting.

When Did Kelly Ripa Know Mark Consuelos Was The One For Her?

Kelly Ripa told Bruce Bozzi during an appearance on Radio Andy that she “knew” Mark Consuelos was the one for her before they even began dating.

“I saw my husband in a photograph before I saw him,” Ripa told Bozzi. “I knew when I saw his photograph.”

“They had been looking for this character for some time. Looking really for a Latino actor, not an actor that was like — they didn’t want like a dark-haired guy. They wanted a Latino actor,” the talk show host explained.

“And so I had auditioned every Latino actor in the city and around the city and then California. And then all of a sudden, Judy Blye Wilson, who was the casting director at All My Children, said, ‘I found him.’”

“[Judy] showed me his picture and, Bruce, I’m not this person. At that point, I was not a hopeless romantic. I never thought about getting married; it never occurred to me that I would grow old with someone,” Ripa continued.

“I just thought I would be living my single girl life in the city and sort of like moving. You know, if I needed to up and move to a location, I could do that. I had no responsibilities, and I was earning a good living on this soap opera because I was there for almost seven years before Mark got there.”

She concluded, “When I saw him, the photograph of him, I saw my entire future with him flash before — like I saw it,” said Ripa. “And I don’t believe in any of that, and now I do because of that moment.”

Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos would go on to welcome three children together, Michael, Lola, and Joaquin. The couple hosts “Live With Kelly and Mark,” which airs weekdays in syndication.
